Summer Law Student Internship – Denver Housing Unit

Position Summary:

Law students perform a variety of duties at CLS depending on their experience level and the needs of theparticular projector office.Working with a team of dedicated and rotating staff in this fast-paced environment housing unit attorneys provide advice and brief services to applicants.

Essential Duties:

• Assistwith the investigation of applicants legal issues through client interviews documentary reviewresearchand analysis.

• Assistatone or more of the Housing Units threeEviction Clinics.

• Additionalduties may include drafting ofadvice letterspleadings memoranda and briefs and legal research.

• Assistancewith any other tasks necessary to carry out effective representation of clients.

Required Qualifications:

• Strong commitment to legal issues affectinglow-income individuals

• Strong interest in research writing and interviewing

• Strong commitment to working withvulnerable individuals includingdisabled and elderly clientsin need oflegalassistance.

• Candidate should be confident and able to work both independently and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications:

• Spanish-speaking ability

This position is housed in theDenveroffice.

Time commitment:

Full-timefor10 weeks.

Compensation:

The position is unpaid but is open to receiving other work study funds that arestudent generated. Students may apply for course credit through their Externship Program.
