Salary: 39129 - 46023
Hours: 36 per week 52 weeks

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Team Leader to join the Household Support and Advice service. Contributing to the councils prevention and early intervention approaches to addressing poverty and homelessness you will be part of a wider service area seeking to develop deliver and improve integrated services to individuals and households through leading:

  • An Advice Line service providing advice and access to welfare rights and debt advice.
  • A Multi-Disciplinary team working across service areas to help and support tenants address high level of rent arrears.
  • The Macmillan Income Maximisation and Welfare Rights service.

Working alongside the Household Support and Advice Managers you will help develop the Teams to deliver and improve outcomes for individuals and households by increasing access to Money Advice supporting individuals experiencing debt due to rent arrears and working to sustain people in their tenancy.

You will be a multi-tasker have good organisational skill and someone who can communicate with a broad range of individuals and groups.

You will have an approach to your work that both supports and challenges staff to empower and enable them to reach their potential.

You will be qualified to SVQ level 4 (SCQF 8) in a relevant field or equivalent or be willing to work towards gaining the relevant qualification. You will and have some knowledge of the UK and Scottish benefit systems debt and welfare rights advice and some understanding of homelessness and housing issues. On job training will be provided. We value continuous professional develop so a commitment to your on-going learning and development is expected.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.

Responsibilities

Experience:

  • Knowledge and experience of working with households where children and adults are affected by a number of issues such as addiction problems learning difficulties mental health issues violence within the family and difficulties in parenting.
  • Must have experience of staff management including development and support.
  • Sound administrative and organisational skills.
  • Several years proven experience in Welfare Rights/Income Maximisation/ Debt advice or a related field is essential.
  • Experience of customer representation in hearings tribunals court etc. Experience providing effective management and development of team.
  • Experience of managing colleagues to achieve performance targets
  • Experience in driving continuous improvement change management and implementation.
  • Experience in report writing and development of business cases to support key outcomes.
  • Experience in supporting their team through transformational change. (Desirable)
  • Experience of working within a multi disciplinary team (Desirable)

Knowledge skills and understanding:

  • Working knowledge of Public Law and Social policy
  • Ability to lead by example and inspire confidence and build respect.
  • Ability to work independently and will be required to use their own initiative taking responsibility for organising and prioritising their own workload and that of their team
  • Keeps abreast of best practice and emerging trends
  • Ability to recognise anticipate and raise practice concerns.
  • Creative approach to providing effective service to clients.
  • Ability to support households affected by issues such as addiction problems learning difficulties mental health issues health problems and violence within the household.
  • The post holder must be skilled at communicating with households who may initially be suspicious of or resistant to the services being offered or refusal to engage
  • Significant demonstrated skills in partnership working to senior level with a wide range of partners. (Desirable)
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills including motivating others and negotiating. (Desirable)
  • Knowledge of Council policy procedures and practice and the relevant legislation. (Desirable)

Qualifications and training:

  • Educated to SVQ level 4 or equivalent in a relevant discipline.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development and a broad understanding of current issues in local government
