General Summary

The Controller at GTI Energy serves as a strategic financial leader responsible for ensuring the accuracy transparency and integrity of the organizations accounting operations. This executive role oversees all aspects of financial reporting compliance and internal controls aligning accounting practices with GAAP standards and regulatory requirements. As a key partner to Finance & Accounting and the broader leadership team the Controller plays a critical role in shaping financial strategy supporting performance measurement and enabling data-driven decision-making across the enterprise.

This position leads the development and execution of accounting systems policies and procedures that strengthen fiscal discipline and operational efficiency. The Controller manages the financial close process prepares timely and accurate financial statements and supports the annual budget and multi-year planning cycles with robust historical analysis. By fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement the Controller ensures GTI Energy maintains a strong financial foundation to advance its mission and strategic objectives.

Work Location

The position will be based in the Chicagoland area at the GTI Energy Headquarters. We offer a hybrid/core work week where employees are remote Mondays and Fridays and required to be on-site Tuesday through Thursday.

Primary Responsibilities

Below is an overview of the primary responsibilities. Please note that there will be other duties to perform as assigned.

Financial & Operational Reporting
  • Oversee the preparation and delivery of accurate timely financial reports including P&L balance sheet and ROI analyses
  • Ensure reporting aligns with government contract requirements including indirect rate structures and allowable cost treatment under Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Office of Management and Budget (OMB) guidelines
  • Support leadership with performance dashboards and metrics that track efficiency impact and compliance
  • Prepare financial presentations for internal leaders and contribute to audit and agency reporting as needed
Financial Management
  • Monitor and optimize cash flow working capital and capital allocation to ensure financial stability and contract performance
  • Support treasury functions for assigned subsidiaries and ensure compliance with federal funding requirements and cost principles
  • Coordinate with program managers to ensure financial alignment with contract budgets billing schedules and funding timelines
Accounting Operations
  • Own the general ledger month-end close and account reconciliations with a focus on accuracy and timeliness
  • Oversee accounts payable accounts receivable payroll and fixed asset accounting
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal policies across all accounting functions
  • Maintain a disciplined close calendar and reporting cadence to support organizational transparency
Internal Controls & Compliance
  • Design and enforce financial controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with federal regulations including Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) and Uniform Administrative Requirements Cost Principles and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards (Uniform Guidance)
  • Coordinate with internal audit external auditors and federal agencies to support reviews site visits and compliance testing
  • Maintain documentation and evidence to support indirect rate calculations timekeeping and cost allocations
Technical Accounting & Policy
  • Invest in people and cultivate ways of working rooted in accountability that inspire trust respect transparency and continual learning.
  • Financial Systems & Process Optimization
  • Lead improvements to financial systems and workflows to support government contract billing indirect rate tracking and cost pool allocations
  • Administer accounting tools and support upgrades testing and adoption of new technologies
  • Champion data integrity and process discipline across accounting operations
Team Leadership & Development
  • Manage and mentor a high-performing accounting team fostering a culture of accountability transparency and continuous learning
  • Set clear goals provide feedback and support professional development
  • Promote documentation cross-training and timely execution of deliverables
Organizational Collaboration & Change Support
  • Partner with Contracts Program Management and Compliance teams to ensure financial alignment with federal award terms and conditions
  • Support organizational change initiatives by providing financial insights and helping teams adapt to evolving federal requirements
  • Performing other duties as assigned
Required Knowledge Skills and Capabilities
  • Deep expertise in financial accounting reporting and government cost accounting standards
  • Strong understanding of Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) and Uniform Guidance
  • Proven ability to lead complex projects improve financial systems and drive process transformation
  • Executive-level leadership experience with a track record of building high-performing teams and cross-functional collaboration
  • Advanced analytical skills in scenario modeling indirect rate structures and multi-year forecasting
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills for diverse audiences including auditors and federal partners
  • High ethical standards sound judgment and commitment to compliance and audit readiness
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with ERP FP&A and Business Intelligence (BI) tools
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities under pressure.
Required Education and Experience
  • Masters degree in accounting finance or a related field
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) preferred; Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) certification a plus
  • Fifteen years of progressive experience in accounting financial reporting and financial management
  • Ten or more years in senior leadership roles overseeing enterprise-wide financial operations
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Office accounting software FP&A platforms and data visualization tools
  • Exposure to financial systems and tools such as ERP systems FP&A platforms and BI tools with a focus on system integration and reporting automation
  • Project accounting experience required; familiarity with Deltek and/or CostPoint strongly preferred
  • Government contracting experience required including compliance with FAR DFARS and Uniform Guidance and experience managing indirect rates cost pools and federal audit readiness
Pay Transparency

The salary range for this position is $175000 - $250000 USD annually. This salary range is GTI Energys good faith estimate and the actual salary may vary based on a number of factors including but not limited to GTI Energys business or organizational needs and an individuals relevant experience education qualifications certifications skills seniority geographic location and/or performance. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate monthly rate or annual salary only and do not include bonus. The range listed is just one component of GTI Energys total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonuses paid time off and region-specific benefits.
