Job Summary

A vacancy has arisen for a Sergeant (Engineering Gnd Tech Mech) to serve as SNCO Training Cell at RAF Coningsby on Full Time Reserve Service (Limited Commitment) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS) with an initial proposed start date of 25 May 2026 (or earlier/later subject to candidate status).

Brief Description of the role:

1. SNCO Training Cell is responsible to Officer Commanding Ground Engineering Flight (GEF) for:
a. The supervision discipline and welfare of personnel employed within the GEF Training Cell.
b. Exercising delegated Health & Safety responsibilities for all personnel employed in or attached to the Training Cell including external staff who may be affected by GEF work activities.
c. Promoting the MOD and RAF Diversity & Inclusion Policy. You are to value the contributions of all personnel under your command regardless of different backgrounds to challenge and deal swiftly and firmly with any form of intimidation harassment bullying or abuse.
d. Foster a positive Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement culture in support of the Quality Management System (QMS) Ensuring the QMS is fully implemented and all audits training and QORs are completed within prescribed timelines.
e. Promote and maintain a positive attitude to FOD Prevention and reporting as detailed in the Station FOD Management Plan.
f. They are fully aware of the responsibilities for GEF detailed in the Unit Contingency Plans following an aircraft crash disaster or fuel spill.

2. SNCO Training Cell must hold as a minimum the Defence Trainer (Practitioner) qualification (or civilian equivalent) to develop and deliver engineering biased training. Training will include but is not limited to:
a. Typhoon Airfield Support Equipment (ASE) familiarisation training for RAF Coningsby personnel.
b. Typhoon Airfield Support Equipment (ASE) Pre-Employment Training for Ground Engineers across the RAF deploying to Typhoon specific Out of Area (OOA) operations as directed by A1 Ops and Career Management.
c. Rotary Hydraulic Arrestor Gear (RHAG) Operator and Maintainer training for Station and PET personnel as directed by A1 Ops and Career Management. This operator training for Firefighters employed in the Station Fire Section.
d. Manual Handling training for personnel employed across GEF.
e. Carry our Acting Higher Rank training when required.
f. Act as MODNet SuperUser for all GEF IT related issues.

3. SNCO Training Cell will be responsible for coordinating the arrivals and clearance of all personnel employed within GEF. Activities include:
a. Escorting new arrivals across RAF Coningsby estate to visit and identify key locations.
b. Book arrivals and departure interviews with Senior Management.
c. Issue and receipt locker keys and tool tags.
d. Issue and coordinate JPA competency profiles Personnel Technical Record Reviews (PTRR) and legacy RAF Form 4820 Technical Personal Records.
e. Act as STARS WEB System Administrator for GEF monitoring and coordinating individual Engineering Authorisations commensurate with rank and profession.
f. Dispatching individual training certificates and records to receiving Units on posting.
g. Enrol GEF personnel on to CWP programmes (as required) monitoring and reporting progress to the Station Training & Development Officer.

4. SNCO Training Cell is to coordinate with Trade Managers (TMs) to maintain a high level of currency within the workforce with respect to training and authorisations. This is to include timely notification of currency lapse of Core Competencies and Engineering Authorisations.

5. At all times SNCO Training Cell and deputies are to ensure the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998 are strictly adhered to and that they seek advice from the Station Data Protection Officer when necessary.

6. Carry out the responsibilities of JAMES Unit Administrator for GEF whilst acting as focal point to the JAMES Unit Officer.

7. SNCO Training Cell will be responsible for liaising with Force Development Flight and Industry Partners to develop and deliver current and future Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT) compliant training packages.
