Job Summary

The Advanced Illness Doula Program Coordinator is responsible for developing implementing and managing a comprehensive program that provides holistic non-medical support to individuals living with serious or life-limiting illness as well as to their families. This role works collaboratively with medical palliative hospice and community partners to support dignity informed choice and emotional well-being throughout the illness journey.

The ideal candidate is grounded emotionally attuned and comfortable supporting clients and families through complexity uncertainty and transition. This position requires strong organizational skills compassionate leadership and the ability to hold space with sensitivity and professionalism.

Summary: The Advanced Illness Doula Program Coordinator is responsible for developing implementing and managing a comprehensive program that provides emotional spiritual and practical support to individuals and families during the end-of-life journey. This role ensures high-quality services recruits and trains volunteer doulas and collaborates with healthcare providers palliative care and hospice teams and community organizations to enhance compassionate care.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Social Work Nursing Counseling or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience in hospice palliative care or end-of-life support preferred.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and maintain confidentiality.
  • Certification as an End-of-Life Doula or willingness to obtain.
  • Knowledge of grief support and cultural competency in end-of-life care.
  • Proficiency in program management software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities/Job Duties:

  • Program Development & Management: Design and oversee the advanced illness doula program structure Duke Endowment Grant administrative task tracking policies and procedures. Establish measurable goals and outcomes for program success. Maintain compliance with organizational standards and applicable regulations.
  • Volunteer Recruitment & Training: Recruit screen and onboard volunteer doulas. Develop and deliver training programs on advanced illness and end-of-life care communication and cultural sensitivity. Provide ongoing education and support for volunteers.
  • Client & Family Support Coordination: Match clients and families with appropriate doulas based on needs and preferences. Ensure timely and compassionate service delivery. Serve as a liaison between doulas families and healthcare teams.
  • Community Outreach & Partnerships: Build relationships with hospices hospitals and community organizations. Promote program awareness through events presentations and marketing initiatives.
  • Administrative Duties: Maintain accurate records of program activities volunteer hours and client interactions. Prepare reports for leadership and stakeholders. Manage program budget and resources effectively.
  • Supports the overall culture of the organization.
  • Participates in organization sponsored events.
  • Performs other duties as requested and appropriate.
