Sets up and performs routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals grant commitments i.e. assays cell/tissue culture animal studies etc. Monitors results reports unusual outcomes and suggests modifications. Collects enters and summarizes data. Assists in the maintenance of lab equipment and supplies. Performs basic statistical data analysis; prepares tables/charts/graphs and assists in organizing data. Presents at research laboratory meetings and contributes to writing of manuscripts. Works under supervision and may perform some assignments independently as discussed and approved by Principal Investigator.

Position description

A Research Technologist position is available to work with the Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) group that is within Hematology Research.

The CLL research group has a major focus on understanding the nature and scope of the leukemic microenvironment in the pathobiology of CLL. For example significant advances made by our group have included detailing the impact of stromal cells and their secreted products on leukemic B cells as well as the ability of CLL B cells to modify the functional status of stromal cells.

Responsibilities:

  • Sets up and performs routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals grant commitments.
  • Collects enters and summarizes data.
  • Assists in the maintenance of lab equipment and supplies.
  • Performs basic statistical data analysis; prepares tables/charts/graphs and assists in organizing data.
  • Presents at research laboratory meetings and contributes to the writing of manuscripts.
  • Works under supervision and may perform some assignments independently as discussed and approved by the Principal Investigator.

Qualifications:

  • A solid understanding of basic lab techniques equipment and safety.
  • The ability to organize and carry out laboratory techniques independently and in a team setting.
  • The preferred candidate will have Experience with cell culture flow cytometry ELISAs cell sorting and purification western blotting and immunohistochemistry/fluorescence.
  • Additionally this position requires excellent communication skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Must have the ability to keep track of and organize numerous samples and associated results electronically (i.e. MS Excel MS PPT etc) and manually (via storage in freezers).
  • Experience with basic data analysis using MS Excel or other programs (i.e. Prism) is preferred.


Qualifications

Requires bachelors degree in biology chemistry other relevant science or an associates degree with 6 years of relevant laboratory experience. Must exhibit a solid understanding of lab techniques equipment and safety. Must have the ability to organize and carry out laboratory techniques independently and in a team setting. Experience with basic data analysis is required. This position requires demonstrated writing skills.
