The NASCAR Aerodynamic Specification Lead is responsible for defining communicating and maintaining the aerodynamic body specifications for NASCAR teams supported by Pratt & Miller.

This role ensures that all supported team vehicles achieve the best possible aerodynamic performance with minimal visual variance between builds. The position supports both ongoing season development and long-term NASCAR program initiatives collaborating closely with Pratt & Miller aero group team aero leads and NASCAR personnel.

The role also contributes to shaping Pratt & Millers aero-focused tools processes and infrastructure to support NASCAR programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND SKILLS:

Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Aerodynamic Specification Leadership

  • Develop refine and maintain recommended aerodynamic body-build specifications for all supported teams.
  • Extract actionable build specifications from complex aerodynamic datasets to support team aero and body leads.
  • Assist supported teams to develop body build quality control processes with various inspection tools including but not limited to scanning and templates.

Aero Development & Wind Tunnel Support

  • Assist in the coordination planning and execution of wind tunnel tests.
  • Collaborate with Pratt & Miller and team aero leads to evaluate performance and inspection trends to identify specification adjustments.

Cross-Team Communication & Build Support

  • Communicate current aerodynamic build specifications to stakeholders as needed.
  • Provide feedback related to build feasibility part quality and recommended modifications that reduce rework and produce consistent on-car visuals.
  • Support issue resolution related to part buildability and body fit.

At-Track Responsibilities

  • Attend select races to monitor aerodynamic inspection processes and build consistency.
  • Track competitor trends and report observations to internal stakeholders.
  • Work with the aero program manager to coordinate with NASCAR on inspection/approval concerns.
  • Attend track tests to support aerodynamic testing as needed.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

In addition to the responsibilities mentioned above tasks relating to the following area will be assigned as required.

  • Strong analytical capability with the ability to simplify complex aerodynamic information into actionable guidance.
  • Effective collaboration across OEM team and sanctioning-body interfaces.
  • Clear and confident verbal and written communication.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

  • BS in Mechanical Aerospace Automotive Engineering or related engineering field required for less experienced candidates.
  • 37 years of experience in motorsports aerodynamics vehicle dynamics race team engineering or equivalent high-performance automotive development.
  • Experience with wind tunnel testing aero data analysis body build processes and skillset below preferred.

DESIRED SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Strong understanding of NASCAR aerodynamic regulations and inspection processes.
  • Hands-on experience with body build surface development and composite/aero component fabrication.
  • Strong experience and understanding of inspection methodologies including templates and scanning with related experience in NASCAR tolerances.
  • Competency with CAD tools and aero development workflows.
  • Ability to work efficiently in fast-paced competitive and technically demanding environments.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel PowerPoint Word) and data visualization tools.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to support body build and inspection activities in shop and at-track environments.
  • Occasional use of basic hand tools and equipment during build evaluations.
  • Ability to stand walk and move around vehicles for extended periods during track events and wind tunnel sessions.

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

  • Core hours: 8am4pm (minimum) with typical weekly workload averaging 45 hours.
  • Additional hours may be required during testing race events and development surges.
  • Travel required for wind tunnel tests team visits track events and meetings.

Pay Range:

$102800.00 - $176800.00

The above pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target pay for the position across all U.S. locations. Within this range individual pay is determined by various factors including the scope and responsibilities of the role the candidates experience education and skills as well as the equity of pay among team members in similar positions.
