A caring and inclusive primary school in the London Borough of Barnet is seeking a committed EYFS SEN Teaching Assistant to join its Early Years team. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting young children with additional needs and helping them build strong foundations for learning.
The school is a well-respected community-focused primary that places inclusion wellbeing and early intervention at the centre of its practice. The Early Years Foundation Stage offers a calm engaging and play-based environment where children are encouraged to explore communicate and develop independence.
The school has a strong SEN structure in place with an experienced SENCo and close collaboration between staff families and external professionals. Staff are supported through clear guidance teamwork and ongoing professional development.
You will work with children in Nursery or Reception who require additional support to access learning and school routines. Pupils may have a range of needs including autism spectrum condition (ASC) speech and language difficulties global developmental delay sensory needs or social and emotional challenges.
Support will be delivered through a combination of 1:1 support and small-group interventions helping children to feel confident secure and ready to learn.
Provide targeted SEN support in line with EHCPs and individual support plans
Support access to the EYFS curriculum through structured play and adult-led activities
Promote communication interaction and social development
Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour
Use visual supports routines and sensory strategies
Assist with personal care and toileting where required
Observe monitor and record progress
Work closely with teachers the SENCo and external professionals
Maintain high standards of safeguarding and child protection
The successful candidate will:
Have experience supporting children with SEN ideally in EYFS
Be patient empathetic and nurturing
Have a good understanding of early childhood development
Be reliable flexible and proactive
Work effectively as part of a team
Relevant qualifications in childcare education or SEN are desirable but not essential.
