Civil Estimator - Road BuildingLocation: North Vancouver BC (On-Site)Salary: $100000 - $150000 DOEOverviewWe are seeking an experienced Civil Estimator to support the delivery of road building and heavy civil infrastructure projects across British Columbia. This role is responsible for developing accurate competitive and defensible cost estimates from early concept through tender submission working closely with procurement operations and safety teams. The ideal candidate brings strong technical knowledge of civil construction a detail-oriented approach to estimating and the ability to manage multiple bids in a deadline-driven environment with opportunities to contribute to project execution on complex projects.
Must Haves- Minimum of 5 years of experience estimating heavy civil or road building projects in British Columbia
- Proven experience preparing detailed and defensible estimates for public and private sector infrastructure projects
- Strong understanding of earthworks road construction paving underground utilities grading and related civil scopes
- Demonstrated ability to interpret drawings specifications contracts and tender documents
- Experience developing material labour and equipment pricing to complete full scopes of work
- High level of proficiency with estimating software and advanced Excel-based cost analysis
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines simultaneously
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across procurement operations and safety teams
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining accuracy and accountability
- Commitment to safety quality and environmental standards on infrastructure projects
Nice to Haves- Experience estimating road building and highway infrastructure projects within BC municipalities or the Ministry of Transportation
- Exposure to both conventional tender and design-build project delivery models
- Post-secondary education in civil engineering construction management or a related discipline
- Gold Seal Certification in Estimating or progress toward certification
- Familiarity with B2W Estimating Autodesk QTO Navisworks or similar industry software
- Experience supporting or transitioning into project management roles on complex civil projects
- Formal training in time management communication or leadership development
- Knowledge of subcontractor and supplier markets within Western Canada
Responsibilities- Review drawings specifications contracts and addenda to clearly define project scope and risks
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits to support accurate estimate development
- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs using digital takeoff and estimating tools
- Develop comprehensive cost estimates including materials labour equipment subcontractors and indirect costs
- Issue receive and evaluate supplier and subcontractor pricing and proposals
- Analyze design and construction alternatives and recommend cost-effective solutions
- Support the preparation and submission of complete and compliant bid packages
- Participate in bid review meetings and assist with pricing strategy and risk evaluation
- Negotiate scope and pricing with subcontractors and suppliers during the tender process
- Maintain and contribute to estimating databases cost histories and resource libraries
- Ensure estimates align with applicable safety quality and environmental management systems
- Consistently deliver accurate competitive and well-documented estimates within tender deadlines
- Support project handover and where required assist with project execution or management duties
