This posting is for an experienced Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse to work full-time nights in a high-volume acute care maternal services unit. The role is nights-only with no option to transfer to days part-time or promotional opportunities at this time. Location is HoustonTX.
Position overview
Be at the heart of every birth as a Labor & Delivery RN in a Level IV maternal designated facility supporting approximately 400 450 deliveries each month. The unit includes 12 labor beds 19 antepartum beds and 4 swing beds providing exposure to a broad spectrum of routine and high-risk obstetric care.
Employment details
- Job type: Full-time nights only.
- Schedule: 12-hour night shifts with required weekend and holiday rotation in line with unit needs.
- Setting: High-acuity Labor & Delivery and antepartum unit within a large academic medical center environment.
Required qualifications
- Active unencumbered Texas RN license or active multistate compact RN license with no stipulations or disciplinary actions.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; ADN and new graduate candidates cannot be considered.
- Minimum 3 5 years of recent acute care Labor & Delivery experience in a hospital setting.
- Updated accurate resume including correct employment dates units and responsibilities.
- Full-time night shift availability only with clear commitment to long-term night shift work.
Preferred experience and attributes
- Extended womens services experience (antepartum postpartum high-risk OB or related areas).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with patients families physicians and the interdisciplinary team.
- Genuine interest in working nights and transparency about preferred unit shift and location to support long-term fit and retention.
Key responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive evidence-based nursing care to laboring antepartum and high-risk obstetric patients across triage active labor delivery and immediate postpartum recovery.
- Monitor maternal and fetal status including interpretation of electronic fetal monitoring timely interventions and escalation of care as needed.
- Collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary team to develop implement and evaluate patient-centered plans of care that promote safe positive birth experiences.
- Educate and support patients and families regarding labor delivery postpartum expectations and newborn care.
- Maintain accurate timely documentation and adhere to all professional regulatory and hospital standards of practice.
