Job Title: Outpatient Pharmacist Job Summary The Outpatient Pharmacist is responsible for providing safe accurate and timely pharmaceutical care to patients in an ambulatory or retail-based healthcare setting. This role focuses on medication dispensing patient counseling prescription verification and collaboration with healthcare providers to ensure optimal therapeutic outcomes.
Key Responsibilities - Review verify and dispense prescription medications accurately and in compliance with federal state and institutional regulations
- Provide patient counseling on medication usage dosage side effects interactions and storage
- Assess prescriptions for clinical appropriateness contraindications and potential drug interactions
- Collaborate with physicians nurses and other healthcare professionals regarding medication therapy
- Perform medication therapy management (MTM) and provide clinical recommendations as appropriate
- Ensure compliance with pharmacy laws DEA regulations and accreditation standards
- Maintain accurate patient profiles and pharmacy documentation in electronic systems
- Oversee pharmacy technicians and support staff ensuring proper workflow and quality control
- Manage inventory including ordering storage expiration monitoring and controlled substances
- Respond to patient questions and resolve medication-related issues professionally
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and patient safety programs

Required Qualifications - Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an accredited school of pharmacy
- Active unrestricted Pharmacist license in the state of practice
- Strong knowledge of outpatient pharmacy operations and clinical guidelines
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Proficiency with pharmacy management systems and electronic health records (EHR)
Preferred Qualifications - Previous outpatient retail or ambulatory care pharmacy experience
- Experience with high-volume dispensing environments
- Familiarity with insurance processing prior authorizations and third-party billing
- Experience with immunizations (if applicable by state law)
- BLS certification (often required in hospital outpatient settings)
