Job Title: Outpatient Pharmacist Job Summary

The Outpatient Pharmacist is responsible for providing safe accurate and timely pharmaceutical care to patients in an ambulatory or retail-based healthcare setting. This role focuses on medication dispensing patient counseling prescription verification and collaboration with healthcare providers to ensure optimal therapeutic outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Review verify and dispense prescription medications accurately and in compliance with federal state and institutional regulations
Provide patient counseling on medication usage dosage side effects interactions and storage
Assess prescriptions for clinical appropriateness contraindications and potential drug interactions
Collaborate with physicians nurses and other healthcare professionals regarding medication therapy
Perform medication therapy management (MTM) and provide clinical recommendations as appropriate
Ensure compliance with pharmacy laws DEA regulations and accreditation standards
Maintain accurate patient profiles and pharmacy documentation in electronic systems
Oversee pharmacy technicians and support staff ensuring proper workflow and quality control
Manage inventory including ordering storage expiration monitoring and controlled substances
Respond to patient questions and resolve medication-related issues professionally
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and patient safety programs

Required Qualifications

Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an accredited school of pharmacy
Active unrestricted Pharmacist license in the state of practice
Strong knowledge of outpatient pharmacy operations and clinical guidelines
Excellent communication and customer service skills
Proficiency with pharmacy management systems and electronic health records (EHR)

Preferred Qualifications

Previous outpatient retail or ambulatory care pharmacy experience
Experience with high-volume dispensing environments
Familiarity with insurance processing prior authorizations and third-party billing
Experience with immunizations (if applicable by state law)
BLS certification (often required in hospital outpatient settings)
