JOB TITLE: Sr. Project Manager

LOCATION: Austin TX (Position is ONSITE (NO REMOTE WORK). Program will only accept LOCAL ONLY candidates for this position (Within 50-mile radius).)

DURATION: Initial contract for 1900 hours through 8/31/26 (end of fiscal year) with anticipated extensions.

JOB DESCRIPTION/MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) seeks highly qualified candidates to fill the Project Manager position within the DSHS Environmental Epidemiology and Disease Registries Section. This position will perform senior level consultative services and technical assistance work in the area of DSHS project management for program related activities. Work involves overseeing DSHS priority initiatives and managing special projects utilizing project management best practices in coordination with agency business and program units. Duties include: assessing analyzing planning researching coordinating and evaluating project management implementation assuring the use of best practices and standards assisting in the coordination and optimization of DSHS operations and program functions and providing recommendations.

This position is responsible for maintaining coordination across numerous related initiatives and leading special projects as assigned by agency leadership. These responsibilities include: developing project management tools; maintaining project management data on critical and major projects; reporting progress on key projects to executive/senior staff; providing recommendations regarding project management practices to agency leadership and reporting the status of key projects and accomplishments.

This position will also work with staff to initiate sponsor manage or participate in projects to maximize the success of multiple and diverse projects. Works under limited direction with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

- Public-sector experience has become more important. This becomes stronger when the Texas position relates directly to the previous public-sector experience. For example if Texas has an opening in Motor Vehicles your candidate with Motor Vehicle experience in say Michigan is a huge plus to be selected for an interview. Even better if the candidate has Texas experience.
