Job Title: Patent Agent or Junior/Mid-Level Intellectual Property Associate (Engineering)

Compensation Position Overview Client is seeking a Patent Agent or Junior/Mid-Level Intellectual Property Associate with a strong engineering background to join its nationally recognized Intellectual Property Practice. For more than 40 years the firm has advised life sciences and technology companies investors and leading academic institutions on building managing and enforcing sophisticated global patent portfolios.
This role offers the opportunity to work on complex patent matters in a collaborative partner-led environment focused on delivering practical business-oriented IP solutions that support commercial success.
Key Responsibilities -
Draft and prosecute U.S. patent applications including:

Preparing responses to Office Actions
-
Conducting examiner interviews
-
Handling appeals before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB)
-
Coordinate and direct international patent prosecution efforts.
-
Conduct freedom-to-operate (FTO) searches and analyses.
-
Perform IP landscape analyses and competitive patent surveillance.
-
Support IP due diligence related to asset purchases financings and securities offerings.
-
Prepare invalidity and non-infringement analyses.
-
Advise clients on patent prosecution and portfolio strategy.
-
Monitor competitor patent filings and submit observations to the U.S. Patent Office.
-
Assist with post-grant proceedings (e.g. IPR PGR) and related district court matters.
-
Support drafting and review of IP-related agreements including:
Qualifications -
2 5 years of experience as a patent agent or patent associate.
-
Prior law firm experience and USPTO registration required.
-
Advanced degree in engineering (Ph.D. preferred; Masters degree considered with substantial industry experience).

Strong technical background and ability to work across complex engineering technologies.

Excellent academic record.
-
Superior written and verbal communication organizational and analytical skills.
-
Demonstrated commitment to exceptional client service with a creative and entrepreneurial approach to IP.

Experience in litigation and/or post-grant proceedings is a plus.
