Job Summary

About the Position

The City of Saint Paul Regional Water Services (SPRWS) is hiring an individual to perform plumbing work installing maintaining and repairing gas water waste and vent sewer systems and all fittings fixtures and accessories related to the plumbing system.

Heres what you can expect to do:
  • Evaluate customer accounts using AMI/AMR (advanced metering infrastructure) data to identify potential leaks and abnormal consumption patterns.
  • Perform remote customer outreach (phone text email) to notify customers of possible leaks and schedule follow-up.
  • Conduct on-site investigations to confirm leaks determine responsibility per utility leak policy and recommend or perform repairs.
  • Investigate and address continuous leaks on non-payment or vacant properties; coordinate shut-off or repair as required.
  • Coordinate recommend and install water conservation devices (low-flow fixtures aerators toilet retrofit kits etc.) for residential and commercial customers.
  • Educate residential and commercial customers on water-saving practices and leak prevention.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot customer complaints related to poor water pressure.
  • Assist the water quality lab with collection of water samples as needed.
  • Lead or assist in ensuring all service connections and repairs comply with Lead-Free SPRWS (Saint Paul Regional Water Services) standards and federal Lead and Copper Rule requirements.
  • Perform or oversee service material investigations (identify lead galvanized or copper service lines).
  • Handle non-conventional water hookups and on-site facility plumbing needs (utility buildings treatment plants pump stations etc.).

Position Requirements

A certificate evidencing the completion of training as an apprentice plumber or four years of experience as a journey level plumber.

Must possess and maintain:

1. Certificate of Competency as a journey level plumber issued by the City of Saint Paul

2. Certificate of competency as a back flow tester Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ) Backflow Preventer issued by the Minnesota State Department of Health

3. A valid Minnesota Class D Drivers License or equivalent out of state drivers license
