About Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Atlanta

Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Atlanta is the first nonprofit legal advocacy organization dedicated to protecting the civil rights of Asian Americans Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander (AANHPI) and Arab Middle Eastern Muslim and South Asian (AMEMSA) communities in Georgia and the Southeast. We envision a social movement in which communities of color are fully empowered active in civic life and working together to promote equity fair treatment and self-determination for all.

Founded in 2010 as the Asian American Legal Advocacy Center (AALAC) our organization became part of the Asian Americans Advancing Justice affiliation in 2014. Since then we have re-organized our work into four major focus areas: Policy Advocacy Organizing & Civic Engagement Impact Litigation and Legal Services.

Position Summary:

As a Field Manager you will play a crucial role in our efforts to introduce foster and/or maintain relationships with our key communities for the purposes of organizing and civic participation. You will help organize supervise and lead canvassers during assigned shifts. Your responsibilities will include building relationships overseeing varying canvassing efforts distribution of voter education registering community members to vote and providing resources that support the Civic Engagement and Organizing department.

This is a part-time position that oversees the organizations community outreach and civic engagement in different communities in Georgia. Being fluent in AAPI (Asian American Pacific Islander) or AMEMSA (Arab Middle Eastern Muslim and South Asian) representative languages is highly preferred for this position.

How Youll Contribute to Our Impact:

  • Supervision: Responsible for canvasser shift management providing materials and supplies for canvassers to be in the field submitting weekly field reports tracking shift pace through data points obtained by canvassers and escalating any safety issues to the Civic Engagement Manager and Director as appropriate.

  • Data Collection: Ensure that canvassers data is accurate consistent and reliable throughout each shift. Record and report relevant data from your outreach efforts. Emphasize creative ways to collect qualitative data in the communities that we serve. Work with Civic Engagement Manager for turf maintenance in MiniVan and maintain an updated list of pop-up canvassing and soft canvassing locations.

Civic and Community Engagement:

  • Outreach and Engagement: Lead a team of canvassers to help engage with community members through soft canvassing (e.g. at community events festivals college campuses) pop up canvassing (local businesses and schools) and deep canvassing (e.g. door-to-door outreach) to distribute information about voting and other community resources.

  • Voter Registration: Ensure canvassers are registering eligible community members to vote checking for quality control of all forms and that all information is accurately completed and processed on time at the end of the shift.

  • Election Protection: Inform community members about their voting rights how to report issues at polling places and the importance of election integrity leading up to key elections. Oversee the organizations election protection efforts at different counties by acting as a cluster captain for canvassers volunteers staff and other partner organizations on key election days.

Relationship-building:

  • Community relationship building: outreach that benefits voter mobilization efforts during peak electoral seasons (local businesses schools community groups etc.)

  • Collaboration: Work closely with all Advancing Justice-Atlanta departments to maximize impact.

Leadership development through political education and skills-building:

  • Willingness to learn Civic Engagement and Organizing theories of change to enhance the collaboration of the departments power building efforts.

What Youll Bring to the Team:

  • Experience: Recommended to have worked one electoral cycle.

  • Leadership Skills: Ability to effectively lead teams of canvassers volunteers and partner organizations in coordination with Organizers within the department.

  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to connect with diverse communities in a respectful and effective manner.

  • Transportation: Must have your own reliable transportation with a valid drivers license and motor vehicle insurance.

  • Community Engagement: Passion for both civic engagement and organizing with commitment to increasing voter participation and community resource awareness.

  • Bilingual Requirements: Fluent in Languages spoken within AAPI (Asian American Pacific Islander) and/ or AMEMSA (Arab Middle Eastern Muslim and South Asian) Communities.

  • Systems: Adept at using technology including MiniVAN Connecteam and GetThru.

  • Adaptability: Comfortable working in inclement weather conditions community events door-to-door outreach and canvassing in different neighborhoods. Ability to work in and with communities you may not necessarily identify with.

  • Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively within a team and cross-department collaboration by sharing insights and strategies to enhance outreach efforts.

  • Experience: Previous experience supervising a diverse team of canvassers or staff is a plus but not required.

  • Availability: Ability to work during Election Day standardized work schedule including evenings and weekends to align with community events and outreach opportunities.

Physical and Logistical Requirements:

The candidate must be local to the Metro-Atlanta area with their own reliable transportation. One must have the ability to lift 30 lbs. and stand/walk for a sufficient amount of time. This position requires travel to the Advancing Justice-Atlanta office and to other local meetings and events. Field Managers will be scheduled to work 20 to 29 hours per week.
