Reports to: Building Principal
Purpose: Lake Norman Charter (LNC) is a K-12 public charter school that provides a rigorous and comprehensive educational environment to develop students with a focus on college readiness leadership and social responsibility.
The Assistant Principal serves as a member of the administrative team collaborating in developing and implementing school policies programs curriculum and budgets in a manner that promotes the educational development of all students and the professional development of staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership and School Administration
- Serves as an active member of the LNC administrative team in the development implementation and continuous improvement of the total school program.
- Assists in the development and establishing of the school goals and objectives and the planning of the schools instructional program.
- Assists in the preparation and management of schedules.
- Demonstrates a deep understanding of effective instructional practices and early childhood/elementary pedagogy.
Relationship-Building and Collaboration
- Builds and maintains strong partnerships with families staff and community stakeholders.
- Supports collaborative decision-making and shared leadership with other administrators and team leads.
- Builds positive relationships that foster trust and community.
- Models and reinforces a safe inclusive and welcoming school environment.
- Demonstrates approachability and maintains high visibility within the elementary school.
Staff Development and Support
- Assists to supervise and evaluate LNC teachers and staff as assigned by the principal.
- Provides feedback and coaches teachers in order to support teacher growth.
- Analyzes EVAAS data to drive instructional decisions and support teacher growth.
- Supports staff through difficult conversations with sensitivity and clarity.
- Participates in planning staff development activities team leader meetings and grade level meetings.
Student Discipline and Support
- Monitors school tardies and implements school tardy policies consistently including communicating with families.
- Collaborates with teachers in the use of ClassDojo to support Social Emotional Learning.
- Assists when student disciplinary issues arise including in defining and disseminating information about school disciplinary policies and procedures to parents students staff and community.
Operations and Compliance
- Actively pursues ongoing professional growth to remain current on evolving educational trends laws and NC Department of Public Instruction regulations.
- Manages daily school operations efficiently (scheduling supervision safety drills AM/PM carpool lunch recess etc.)
- Monitors and tracks teacher absences and substitute coverage.
- Works with the school counselor to monitor school tardies and implements school tardy policies consistently including communicating with families.
- Manages the collection of late fees associated with students being picked up after the time communicated in the Student Handbook including reaching out to parents via email or phone call.
- Ensures compliance with district policies and state requirements (Beginning Teacher Support Read to Achieve mCLASS MTSS etc.)
- Understands and effectively collaborates with grade level teams for MTSS (academic behavior SEL) including intervention systems progress monitoring and data-driven decision-making.
- Possesses deep knowledge of IEP and 504 processes legal requirements and collaborates effectively with EC teachers counselors psychologists and student support staff.
- Evaluates and approves field trip requests including reviewing that trip procedures are in line with current LNC policies.
- Prepares organizes and implements Club Days for all K-4 students.
Communication with LNC Community
- Effectively communicates and implements established policies delegates responsibilities appropriately to ensure task completion and clearly conveys program goals objectives and expectations to the school community.
- Promotes and maintains open communication fosters positive student attitudes demonstrates respect for the dignity and worth of all staff and students and adheres to established lines of authority.
Technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Integration
- Utilizes local and state technology platforms and data systems to monitor student performance support decision-making improve communication and ensure efficient accurate school operations.
- Leverages AI-enabled tools to improve workflow efficiency inform instructional support and enhance schoolwide processes while ensuring ethical use data privacy and equitable outcomes for all students.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Demonstrates strong knowledge of school operations state requirements (including Read to Achieve and NC Licensure) Infinite Campus systems and district performance appraisal processes.
- Exhibits strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with all stakeholders and work effectively with diverse groups to solve problems.
- Demonstrates the ability to multitask remain responsive and professional in a fast-paced environment and use data to guide student staff and organizational decisions.

EDUCATION CERTIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Masters Degree in School Administration
- NC DPI licensure as a school Principal (School Administrator)
- Prior experience as a successful elementary classroom teacher is expected preferably in grades K-4
- Minimum of three years of experience as a successful Assistant Principal is expected preferably at the elementary school level
