Job Description
JOB DESCRIPTION Apply student development philosophy and theory to provide comprehensive counseling services to students from diverse backgrounds regarding transfer degree and career and technical education program planning career decisions goal clarification and personal life management. Commit to centering equity practices designed to provide essential educational support and services to increase the academic success retention degree or certificate completion and transfer rates of the disproportionately impacted student populations. Counsel students regarding choice of transfer institutions and necessary requirements for programs at other colleges and universities. Manage electronic student educational plans course placements access to student information systems and access the internet for academic transfer and career planning. Provide orientation and information sessions related to financial aid topics and eligibility. Participate in curriculum development and serve on department division college and district committees as necessary to maintain and improve the instructional program. Maintain current knowledge of instructional methods and new technologies pertinent to the areas of assignment; learn and apply emerging technologies and advances (e.g. computer software applications) as necessary to perform duties in an efficient organized and timely manner. Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of culturally relevant course materials effective teaching methodologies and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions. Teach student development counseling courses and perform related duties as assigned including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities; comply with district college and division policies in the performance of duties. Participate in the formulation of Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and the Student Learning Outcomes assessment cycle. Maintain positive and professional relationships with campus faculty staff and students to foster collaboration support student success and promote an inclusive and welcoming campus environment. Participate in counseling related professional development activities Coordinate and build relationships across academic disciplines to support students on financial aid (including students who do not meet Satisfactory Academic Progress) for academic success. Maintain formal office and campus hours. Participate in department division and program meetings. Work cooperatively with staff and students. Evening and/or weekend assignments may be required as part of the regular contract.

Desirable Qualifications
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Demonstrated experience counseling disproportionately impacted students in the California Community College system or similar environment to create equitable outcomes and success for all students. Demonstrated experience teaching student development and/or counseling courses. Demonstrated experience integrating elements of culturally relevant and inclusive pedagogy in and out of the classroom. Demonstrated experience working with students on financial aid who have a broad range of academic skills language abilities motivation and educational/occupational goals. Demonstrated experience working with state and federal regulations and requirements for both Counseling and Title IV Financial Aid. Demonstrated experience coordinating equity-minded initiatives for students and/or disproportionately impacted student populations.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Masters in counseling rehabilitation counseling clinical psychology counseling psychology guidance counseling educational counseling social work career development marriage and family therapy or marriage family and child counseling OR The equivalent. Equivalent qualifications may include related education training employment and professional experience that would be equal to the required degree(s) and experience in this field as determined by the District Equivalency Committee. The applicant must be able to demonstrate how these factors relate to the need for equity minded practices within the classroom ( NOTE : A bachelors degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist ( MFT ) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.)
