Position: Project Manager - Forensic Engineer/Architect
Location: Chicago IL
We are seeking engineers and architects that will be responsible for performing a wide range of forensic investigations related to damage and deterioration of structures condition assessment studies for property owners and managers and structural and building enclosure repair and rehabilitation design to existing facilities. The work includes evaluations of commercial residential industrial utility infrastructure and municipal projects.
The Project Engineer - Forensic Engineer/Architect will assist senior staff with conducting investigation and assessment projects which will include field work technical research report writing and occasionally the development of repair design drawings and technical specifications. The position requires direct daily contact with clients and staff therefore strong oral and written communication skills are a must. The position offers the opportunity to work both independently and as part of a team. Project responsibilities will vary based on the nature of the assignment and individual aptitudes. Applicants must possess experience in or the desire to learn the evaluation of entire structures (from foundations to roofing) as well as the investigation of failures and building problems. Position requires frequent local and occasional regional travel.
Responsibilities
- Conducting investigations and assessments typically under the guidance and direction of senior staff in order to prepare accurate technical reports and repair documents
- Managing multiple assignments concurrently
- Performing all aspects of repair design tasks and drafting
- Assisting Project Managers and other senior staff with technical tasks as may be assigned
- Developing technical specifications
- Training mentoring and guiding Staff Engineers and Interns as requested
- Other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift or move objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Ability/willingness to climb ladders and scaffolding work from heights walk roofs access crawl spaces and other areas of limited accessibility
- Comfortable working outdoors in all conditions
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or Architecture from an accredited engineering or architecture school; Other degrees will be considered based on relevant experience
- Certification As applicable Engineering Intern (passed NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam)
- 2years experience
- AutoCAD and/or Revit experienceis a plus
- Prior design and/or investigation experience preferred
- Proficient with MS Office applications
- Valid drivers license and reliable means of personal transportation to and from office location
