The Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry & Fire Protectionis recruiting for aTraining Specialist 1 in Fairbanks.

What You Will Be Doing:

The Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry & Fire Protection is recruiting for a Statewide Training Specialist position. Under the direction of the Statewide Training Coordinator this position will work closely with the Regional Training Specialists and Fire Management Officers to provide high-quality training to our support staff and firefighters.


Mission and Values/Culture:

The Division of Forestry & Fire Protection fosters a mission-driven culture with the responsibility of protecting Alaskas values including life and property from wildland fire. The Division of Forestry & Fire Protection works closely with federal state and local emergency response agencies as well as private industry vendors to provide wildland fire management and protection for the state of Alaska. The fire programs training section is an integral part of building developing supporting and maintaining a well-trained Alaskan workforce.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:

This position has statewide responsibilities and provides coverage across Alaska. The environment is mission-oriented and involves collaborative interaction with colleagues in the division other state agencies local government and our federal counterparts in wildland fire management.


This position is primarily office-based but may require travel to rural Alaska to support on-site training or incident response where living conditions can be rustic and work is conducted in a fast-paced emergency response setting.


Opportunities exist to represent the State of Alaska on national committees and working groups to develop policy and best practices for education and training.

Supplemental Questions

For your application to be evaluated you must answer the Supplemental Questions. The State of Alaska (SOA) uses four proficiency levels to measure and describe an applicants competence in applying specific behaviors knowledge skills and abilities to accomplish a specific task. The four proficiency levels are Mastery Fluency Literacy and Discovery. You must rate your proficiency level for each competency listed in the supplemental questions.

If you have not yet obtained a degree please indicate the units you have completed. Copies of transcripts are required to verify educational credentials if used to meet the minimum qualifications for a position.
