The City of Missions Parks Recreation and Culture Department is looking for a Youth Engagement Worker to build positive and trusted relationships with youth ages 12-18 at the Mission Youth Centre and Mission Leisure Centre. Supporting the personal social and emotional development of youth this role monitors the well-being and safety of young people responding appropriately to emerging needs and concerns and helping them navigate challenging situations. Planning and delivering engaging activities and programs this role also encourages participation creativity and collaboration fostering an inclusive environment where youth can express their unique selves build self-confidence and have fun.
Qualifications :
Candidates for this role must have a working knowledge of adolescent development valuing young people as capable diverse individuals with their own voices experiences strengths and potentials. Candidates must have strong skills in interpersonal communication conflict management and problem-solving ethical and trauma-informed decision-making and leadership. Candidates must also be able to address and mitigate unsafe and inappropriate conduct with assertiveness sensitivity and respect.
The ideal candidate has a post-secondary education in Child and Youth Care (or in a related field of study) or an equivalent combination of education and experience including youth recreation and working with youth in a supportive role. A vulnerable sector criminal record check will be required as a condition of employment. Emergency First Aid and CPR certification will also be required. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification (or equivalent) is an asset. A working knowledge of community resources the Child Protection Act neurodiversity mental health substance use bullying gang violence and issues facing vulnerable youth populations is also an asset. All candidates must be at least 19 years of age.
Additional Information :
This is a casual position with flexible variable hours based on program needs. Hours include afternoons evenings and occasional weekends. There is no guarantee of minimum weekly hours; shifts will be offered as required and may vary from week to week. The rate of pay is $24.50/hour plus 4% vacation pay in accordance with the BC Employment Standards Act.
