Job Summary

BERKELEY ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE INC.

DATA ENGINEER

OBJECTIVES

To design develop maintain and support the Cooperatives data pipelines integrations and warehouse solutions to ensure reliable and accessible data for decision-making.

Possess a working knowledge of the Cooperatives systems databases and data sources permitting data extraction transformation and analysis across platforms.

To assist with the implementation of the Cooperatives business intelligence and analytics strategy by providing accurate timely and comprehensive data models reports and tools that support the Cooperatives strategic initiatives.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

A. Reports to: Director of Software Development

B. Supervises: None

C. Directs: None

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

Bachelors degree in Computer Science Data Engineering Mathematics Information Systems or related field required. Comparable experience may be substituted. Additional training in databases data integration and cloud platforms is desired.

EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of eight (8) years of professional experience in data engineering database development or a related field is required. Experience in the utility sector is highly preferred. An additional two (2) years is required to become proficient.

JOB KNOWLEDGE:

Must have knowledge of SQL ETL/ELT processes and data warehouse concepts. Experience with database platforms (Oracle SQL Server Synapse Snowflake Databricks) required. Familiarity with BI tools (Power BI Crystal Reports) and scripting/programming languages (Python Spark) preferred. Must understand data governance modeling and optimization best practices.

ABILITIES & SKILLS:

Must have the ability to relate well with others. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. Must have the ability to manage multiple projects prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment. Must possess the ability and skill to analyze data needs design effective solutions and deliver within reasonable timeframes. Strong troubleshooting problem-solving and critical-thinking skills are required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Occasional overtime may be required. Some travel to district offices is required. Some overnight travel is required.
