Join the dynamic and cutting-edge world of research in emergency medicine as we seek a passionate individual to take on the role of Research Administrator at the vibrant BerbeeWalsh Department of Emergency Medicine (DEM) at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health! Reporting directly to the Associate Department Administrator-Finance with a matrixed relationship to the Associate Vice Chair of Research the Research Administrator will be responsible for contributing to the mission of enhancing and facilitating high-impact clinical and translational emergency care research in the department by carrying out pre- and post-award research administration tasks. The pre-award component includes directly working with principal investigators and/or research staff to prepare route and submit funding proposals to sponsors. Reviewing advising and assisting faculty in developing and submitting grant applications contract proposals progress and final reports. Post-award tasks include directly working with principal investigators and research staff to budget complete award set-up monitor expenditures and reconcile financial data for sponsored programs. This includes processing accounting transactions such as cost transfers sub award management and financial projections related to sponsored project management. Furthermore this role will serve as the unit liaison to internal and external stakeholder groups providing institutional and sponsor information representing the interests of the department and will implement departmental research administration policies and procedures accordingly.

  • This position may require some work to be performed in-person onsite at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely at an offsite non-campus work location.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Reviews and approves programmatic transactions spanning the life-cycle of sponsored projects to ensure compliance with institutional and/or sponsor policies and procedures
  • May have authority to submit proposals agreements or invoices to a sponsor on behalf of the principal investigator or project director
  • May supervise the day-to-day activities of research administration staff
  • Serves as a key resource to leadership and staff in the unit as well as a liaison to partners and stakeholders
  • Executes activities related to proposal submission contract negotiation and/or award setup on behalf of a unit
  • Executes activities related to financial compliance audit or reporting on behalf of a unit
  • Executes research administration operational policies and procedures including financial administrative staffing and compliance on behalf of a unit
  • Provides training to faculty staff and/or administrators within the unit regarding policy procedure and/or execution of sponsored project administration

Compensation:

The starting salary for the position is $72000; but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications:

  • Two years or more of experience in grant management (pre and/or post award)

  • Prior budget management experience of federally funded projects

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

At least two years of experience with the following is preferred:

  • Experience developing and projecting budgets.

  • Knowledge of federal (e.g. NIH NSF DOD) state foundation or industry funding mechanisms.

  • Experience working in a healthcare and/or higher education environment.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office

Education:

Bachelors Degree Required
