The Opportunity

The Financial Analyst is responsible for providing advice and assistance on financial matters relating to the various program/project areas within Build NS. This role will assist with monitoring forecast to budget and making recommendations within the accountability framework when forecast variances occur. The Financial Analyst may have day-to-day contact on financial matters that support program/project delivery regarding financial accountability. The Financial Analyst will work directly with the Senior Manager Corporate Finance as well as the Director of Finance and departmental staff as required.

Responsible for assisting with the financial administration management and/or coordination of existing programs/projects.

Assists with the examination/analysis issues related to operational and project spending. Prepares correspondence spreadsheets and other presentation materials for the Senior Manager Corporate Finance and the Director Finance with respect to these programs/Projects.

Assists in the implementation of systems and procedures to organize and coordinate the collection of financial and statistical information. This information will be used in producing analytical reports and funding formulas that will facilitate decision making.

Provide advice and assistance with financial statement preparation and consolidation. Key contact for audit process and responsible to co-ordinate the audit efforts with external and/or internal auditors.

Provides interpretations of the guidelines and advice to external auditors healthcare administrators and departmental staff.

Manage grants/project approvals and commitments in accordance with legislation and audit requirements

Examines analyses and reports on the short and long term fiscal impacts of program and budget initiatives on programs and externally funded agencies. Thorough analysis of financial statements and consultation with internal and external contacts is necessary to properly reflect this financial position. Participates in the business planning process of both the client department and external agencies.

Participates in special projects with other departmental staff client agencies and outside consultants as required.

May represent the department on interdepartmental committees.

May attend meetings conferences and workshops often acting as a resource to satisfy the needs of the client department.

What youll need

Qualifications

This may be the right opportunity for you if you have a bachelors degree with three to five years of related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. You also possess knowledge of PSAAB and other relevant CICA standards and requirements.

A working knowledge of accounting financial systems is needed. Yardi knowledge is considered an asset.

You possess the ability to critically analyze/cost programs forecast operations examine financial statements counsel clients on finances accounting and reporting in the context of PSAB legislation and policy. You possess exceptional communication and time management skills with strong attention to detail able to produce accurate reports in a timely manner.

While not required an accounting designation (CPA) or enrolment in a recognized accounting program is considered an asset.
