Job Summary:
Columbia Collegeis seeking a dynamic visionary and service-oriented leader to serve as the Director of Library Services and Educational role is crucial for fostering a progressive 21st-century library environment and ensuring comprehensive academic support for our diverse student body. The Director will provide strategic direction operational oversight and innovative leadership for all library services archives and the academic support programs.
Essential Functions:
I. Strategic Leadership and Vision for a Progressive Library
  • Develop and implement a strategic planfor the Stafford Library that aligns with the colleges mission and anticipates the evolving needs of a modern academic institution.
  • Lead the transition toward aprogressive 21st-century Library model emphasizingdigital literacyinformation fluency open educational resources (OER) and state-of-the-art learning technologies.
  • Curate and manage an expansive collectionof physical and digital resources employing data-driven methods for resource acquisition maintenance and deselection.
  • Oversee the maintenance and enhancement of thelibrarys physical and virtual spacesto create an inviting accessible and flexible environment that supports individual study collaborative work and technology integration.
II. Oversight of the Academic Achievement Center (AAC)
  • Provide comprehensive leadershipfor the AAC which includes peer tutoring writing support academic coaching and other student success initiatives.
  • Ensure high-quality effective and equitable academic support servicesthat meet the diverse learning needs of all students including those in traditional online and military programs.
  • Collaborate closely with faculty and academic departmentsto integrate library and AAC services into the curriculum supporting student retention and achievement.
  • Manage support and train the professional staffof the AAC promoting a culture of continuous improvement and student-centered service.
III. Administration and Management
  • Manage the departmental budgetsfor both the Library Archives and the AAC ensuring fiscal responsibility and strategic resource allocation.
  • Seek external fundingthrough grants donations and partnerships to support library archives and AAC initiatives and collections.
  • Recruit mentor supervise and evaluatea team of professional librarians archivist tutors professional staff and student workers.
  • Lead assessment and evaluation effortsfor all library archives and AAC services utilizing data to inform decision-making and demonstrate programmatic impact.
  • Ensurecompliancewith copyright laws licensing agreements and college policies.
  • Support textbook operationsas needed.
IV. Campus and Community Engagement
  • Serve as theprimary advocate and representativefor the Library Archives and the AAC within the college community and externally.
  • Cultivatepartnerships with internal stakeholders(e.g. IT Faculty CCG Staff Athletics Student Affairs) andexternal consortia(e.g. MOBIUS) to expand resource access and service delivery.
  • Actively participate indivisional andcollege committeesand institutional planning.
  • Perform job duties in accordance withColumbia Colleges vision mission and values and contributes to the development of the Student Experience Division.
  • Practicesuperior customer service.
  • Attend and assistwith implementation of major Student Experience and College functions including but not limited to Homecoming Quest Day Welcome Week College Visitation events Ivy Chain Commencement Late Night Breakfast and Student Experience Night of Recognition.
  • Fulfilladditional responsibilities as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility: Yes - Archivist Librarians and Academic Achievement Center leadership
Position reports to:Vice President of Student Experience and Dean of Students
Required Experience:
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment with or without direct supervision.
  • Excellent communication interpersonal customer service and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to innovative technology and web-based instruction.
  • Commitment to library and archives in an academic setting.
  • Masters Degree in Library Science Higher Education Administration Information Science or related field.
  • Five years experience in a professional position in higher education.
  • Supervisory experience.
Preferred Experience:
  • Previous managerial experience.
  • Experience in a college or university setting that serves online and non-traditional learners.
  • Experience with library system platforms (e.g. integrated library systems discovery services).
  • Experience with grants fundraising and external relations.
Required Level of Education:Masters DegreeIn:Higher Education Administration Library Sciences Information Science or related field.
Other Requirements:Ability to satisfy within the parameters set by the College and consistent with applicable federal state and local laws a criminal background check as a condition of employment.
