The Division of Cardiology in the Department of Medicine is seeking a Physician Lead Cardiac Procedure Unit and Catheterization Laboratory. The expected hours of work is two hours per week. This role reports to the Corporate Division Head Cardiovascular Diseases. The Physician Lead will support and assist in development of the departments mission objectives and strategic plan including human resource planning and mentoring of new staff. In consultation with the Corporate Division Head develop an annual set of goals and objectives directed towards the achievement of the vision for acute care cardiology and specific set of metrics to measure progress related to annual goals and objectives. The role is also well supported in terms of departmental and corporate mentorship for those who would like to develop or advance their career in clinical leadership.
Accountabilities:
- In consultation with the Corporate Division Head Corporate Chief of Medicine and Corporate Deputy Chief of Medicine develop a planning document outlining the scope and siting of services within the division for the consideration of the senior team and the Board of Directors
- Work in conjunction with regional partners to achieve the vision and to engage relevant stakeholders in initiatives targeted towards achievement of the annual goals and objectives of the program
- Identify leading practices and in collaboration with the Director Cardiovascular and Chronic Disease and incorporate them into the annual goals and objectives
- In collaboration with the Director organize and implement a quality assurance program for services provided under the purview of the Cardiac Procedures Unit
- Be inclusive of and responsive to the diverse and unique needs of the patient population served by the Cardiac Procedures Unit
- Be jointly responsible with the Administrative Director Cardiovascular Services for fiscal matters related to operations within the Cardiac Procedures Unit
- In conjunction with the Administrative Director to report in balanced scorecard format the activities of the Cardiac Procedures Unit including utilization of resources human resource requirements quality of care and implementation of leading practices
- Hold regular meetings with members of the Cardiac Procedures Unit team
- Delegate appropriate responsibility to team members
- Participate in the orientation of new members of the professional staff appointed to the program
- Participate in performance evaluations for team members
- Foster an inclusive culture which promotes diversity inclusion and equitable treatment of all members of the department
About the program:
It is a very exciting time for Oslers cardiovascular program which has seen rapid expansion over the last several years now with over 30 cardiologists providing hospital on-call service. Osler serves one of Canadas largest catchment areas with one of the highest burden of cardiovascular disease. Oslers cardiovascular program is currently a Level 4 Regional Cardiac Centre with one of the busiest cath labs in the province. Osler has a growing arrhythmia program including ICD and pacemaker implantation as well as rapidly developing structural heart disease cardio-oncology heart failure and cardiac research programs. The future vision of the cardiovascular program is to become a Level 7 Full Service Regional Cardiac Centre with on-site mechanical circulatory support interventional EP cardiac surgery and structural heart disease services as Osler transitions to an academic health centre.
Qualifications :
- Must have a Certificate of Registration to practice from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario; a Fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada is preferred
- Excellent communication skills in English (additional languages are considered an asset as we serve a highly diverse population)
