The Administration for Childrens Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child juvenile justice ACS oversees detention placement and programs for youth in the community.
The Division of Administration provides a wide range of support services throughout ACS to ensure all Divisions receive adequate and efficient support to carry out their missions. The Division of Administration (Admin) employs approximately 463 public employees. Admin manages a Personnel Services (PS) Budget of approximately $29M and an Other Than Personnel Services (OTPS) Budget of $140M. Services include real estate facilities and custodial management construction occupational safety operations security transportation and more.
The Office of Real Estate Design and Construction Facilities Management (REDCFM) provides a functional and safe work environment for all ACS staff. REDCFM is responsible for the design and construction management projects of all ACS locations which include over 43 administrative offices throughout the five boroughs and the Nicholas Scoppetta Childrens Center (NSCC). REDCFM also ensures adequate and safe working environments for staff and clients at ACS administrative offices the juvenile facilities and the NSCC and utilizes the Trades Shop to complete work requests by all ACS divisions.
The Administration for Childrens Services (ACS) seeks qualified applicants for the position of Painter to play a critical role in the Office of Real Estate Design Construction Facilities Management. Currently the Office of Real Estate Design Construction Facilities Management within the Division of Administration manages building repairs maintenance and capital upgrades for a variety of programmatic facilities within ACS purview across various field/office locations throughout the five boroughs of NYC.
Under general supervision of the Deputy Executive Director of Construction Management the prospective candidate will perform patching and painting jobs related to rehabilitation and reconstruction work inside and outside buildings.
Typical responsibilities include:
- Travel to and inspect building across all five boroughs and perform work at various locations as necessary.
- Inspect buildings structures and grounds at regular intervals to ascertain rehabilitation/maintenance and painting needed.
- Painter will assess room space projects and compute calculations to order supplies based on specifications.
- Determine the appropriate equipment paint material needed to suit the population space or utilization of area with intend to maintain area upkeep
- Report all hazardous conditions that can become hazardous to employees clients and all stakeholders.
- Identify painting challenges and works to apply to most suitable material to sustain usage wear and tear in walls.
- Prepare walls and protects flooring and furniture from paint and damage while performing duties.
- Use safety equipment to protect themselves to long standing exposure and attend periodic safety and OSHA trainings.
- Ensure work areas are properly ventilated while performing duties.
- Maintain equipment inventory and stock of paint and supplies.
- Operate various types of vehicles following standard safety rules and regulations.
- Maintain chorological log of work performed inventory lists usage of equipment and submits reports to supervisor.
- Work independently but will be required to report out on tasks performed and projected completion dates to Construction Project Managers and other personnel as required.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Work on and from ladders platforms and scaffolds as required by job assignments
- Erect ladders and rig lines and scaffolds safely and efficiently
- Prepare fill and prime surfaces for painting ensuring proper adhesion and finish
- Mix paint components and match colors accurately to specifications
- Apply paint using brushes rollers or spray guns to various surfaces
- Apply plaster to surfaces including skimming walls and taping joints
- Maintain and care for all materials tools and equipment
- Keep accurate work records and documentation as required
- Operate motor vehicles in the performance of assigned duties
- Properly discard materials waste and paint in accordance with OSHA regulations and DSNY guidelines for waste disposal

Qualifications :
1. Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as a painter acquired within the last fifteen years; or
2. At least three years of full-time satisfactory experience as a painter acquired within the last fifteen years and sufficient full-time satisfactory apprentice painter experience to make up a total of five years of acceptable experience. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of apprentice painter experience.
