Our place-based activities immerse campers in the beauty of the coast arts culture and more fostering a deep respect for the designed for adventurous campers who love the outdoors exploring the woods and shoreline and connecting with the place where imagination independent learning and resilience thriverain or shine.

The Role:

As the Assistant Camp Directoryou willbe responsible forsupervising campers and counselors creating activity schedulesdeveloping programs for the camp andassistingwith theadministrative tasks necessary to run a successful and engaging camp forcampers families and staff alike.

Specificallyyoull:

  • Worktogether with the leadership staff tocoverroles and responsibilities at one of twocampbases on The Crane Estateacting as the primary supervisor of either the5-6 year oldor7-14 year oldgroup.

The following duties will be split between the twoAssistant Camp Directors:

  • Collaboratively create and plan a thoughtful schedule of educational and fun activities.
  • Supervise support and drive the weekly activity schedules implemented by Camp Educators.
  • Coordinate and supervise the Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program spearheading all hiring and communications with CITs and CIT parents.
  • Performadministrative functions of camp (parent communications paperwork etc.).
  • Act as transportation coordinator for our scholarship families tosecure transportation from partnering organizations to camp.
  • Supervise campers as needed to provide breaks for Camp Educators during the day.
  • Participate actively in camp planning andstaffevaluation meetings.
  • Act as a Health Care Supervisor along with the Camp Director by coordinating and overseeing first aid and campermedicationsas necessary.
  • Manage photo and video content intended for parent communication and internal marketing.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This is aSeasonal Non-Exemptpositionworking40 hours/weekreporting directly toThe Crane EstatesSchool and Youth Programs Manager/Camp Director.



Requirements

WhatYoullNeed:

Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal candidate is pursuing a degree or career in education science humanities conservation/stewardship or outdoor/environmental fields. (Bachelors degree in education or science preferred)
  • 1-3 years experience working as a camp counselor classroom teacher informal educator and/or childcare provider with children ages 5-14 environmental education (EE) experience preferred
  • A particular interest in outdoor education especially in a coastal environment
  • Experience supervising a team of individuals and providing constructive feedback
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a group
  • Ability to take initiative andaccomplishnecessary tasks promptly with great independence
  • A positive attitude willingness to be flexible and a commitment to achieving goals
  • High regard for teamwork and collegiality
  • A commitment to the physical and emotional well-being of campersand staff
  • The physical and mental wherewithal to teach outdoors sometimes under challenging weather and other conditions
  • Lifeguard certification or willingness to obtain one highly desired but notrequired
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Minimum age is 21 years oldby the start of camp
  • Full availability for staff training weeks(June8-18) and all nine weeks of camp (June 23August 22);optionalpart-timeavailabilityfor pre-camp preparations beginningin May.
  • Certificationsprovided as needed:
  • CPR and Basic First Aid certifications
  • ACA Camp Director course certificate
  • Current authorization to work in the United Statesby thefirst day of employment.
  • A valid drivers license as well as a satisfactory driving record as outlined in The Trustees driving policy.
  • A satisfactory criminal background (CORI) check.
