Are you the one were looking for
We are seeking a dynamic highly motivated Asylum Seekers Assistance Program Worker who demonstrates our values of compassion accountability responsiveness and empowerment; to our clients families and each other.
This position is a unionized full-time temporary contract position. This contract ends on January 22 2027. The rate of pay is $23.93 per hour. Hours are 40 hours/week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare clients files.
- Provide adequate support for ASAP clients to adjust during their initial days in temporary accommodation before living on their own in the community.
- Connect clients with various support services such as Ontario Works Legal Aid and Food banks.
- Connecting clients with healthcare providers and mental health support when needed.
- Prepare and set up clients rooms before their arrival.
- Conduct an initial ASAP needs assessment to identify immediate resettlement needs and determine which services are required to meet these needs during the clients stay in temporary accommodations.
- Provide orientation and link to essential federal/provincial programs and services so the clients can understand and access fundamental services like all other asylum seekers.
- Conduct regular room checks to ensure clients rooms are in good condition and report any damages.
- Work rotating shifts as required.
- Maintain required participation records and relevant program statistics continuously looking for efficiencies to implement within the program.
- Ensure that records are kept confidential and secure at all times.
- Report and communicate progress strategies challenges and program status to the management team.
What you will bring:
- Post-secondary education at a College Diploma level or higher including studies pertinent to settlement social services adult education community health and migration issues.
- At least three years of relevant practical experience working with newcomer families is required.
- Advanced computer skills required in the following programs: Microsoft Word PowerPoint and Outlook; Adobe; any program database.
- Excellent communication organization and coordination skills.
- Proven ability to demonstrate Wesleys mission vision and values.
- Fluency in Arabic French Spanish or Swahili (verbal and written) in addition to English is required.
- Available to work flexible/irregular hours including evenings and weekends.
- A Valid Drivers License with access to a vehicle would be an asset.
- Non-violent crisis intervention and 1st aid/CPR training is required.
