Learning Support and EAL/D Teacher 2026.

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Learning Support and EAL/D professional to join our team who is committed to academic excellence creativity and innovative pedagogy. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in teaching English to students who speak other languages and the ability to adapt lessons to meet the needs of a diverse student population.

Your role:

As a Learning Support / EAL/D Teacher you will help students develop their English language skills and access the full curriculum while supporting those with additional learning needs from Prep to Year 12. The role includes delivering targeted support programs assisting students in their classes developing differentiated lessons and assessments and managing student cases. You will work closely with students parents and teachers to adjust learning and assessment and support the Head of Learning Support in monitoring progress collating evidence of adjustments and moderating NCCD decisions. You will also act as an advocate for students with identified learning needs or disabilities to ensure an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop implement and deliver engaging learning and teaching programs that cater to the diverse needs and characteristics of our students.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of the EAL/D curriculum and teaching materials that align with the curriculum.
  • Develop strategies to help students integrate into mainstream classes and College activities.
  • Work in conjunction with the Head of Learning Support to deliver programs to support students and advise classroom teachers of recommended practice.
  • Build relationships and partnerships with students parents/carers fellow staff and the wider community through the use of well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Understand and participate in school assessment and moderation activities to support consistent and comparable judgements of student learning.
  • Develop and implement individualised learning plans for students requiring additional support.
  • Bandscaling of EAL/D students monitoring their proficiency in English and collaborating with classroom teachers on embedding quality supports and differentiation for EAL/D students into their planning and teaching practice.
  • Assist in the collation and moderation of NCCD data and evidence.
  • Construct accurate informative and timely reports to students and parents/carers about student learning and achievement.
  • Support school leaders and teachers to plan and implement whole school approaches that build strong partnerships with the families of EAL/D and international students and more broadly engage culturally diverse communities.

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Be passionate about teaching and enriching the learning experience of EAL/D students.
  • Display cultural sensitivity and a commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion.
  • Strong knowledge of language acquisition theories and EAL/D instructional strategies.
  • A demonstrated ability to apply the principles of inclusive teaching and learning including the use of learning technologies and assessment to create a supportive and challenging environment in which students are supported in achieving to their potential.
  • Have a demonstrated ability to contribute to the diverse extracurricular program of the College.
  • Excellent communication organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Have an active interest in and commitment to the education of our students.
  • Proven ability to conduct oneself in a way which develops personal respect respect for the College and the teaching profession.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Proven experience teaching English as an Additional Language to students of various ages and proficiency levels.
  • Current Queensland College of Teacher Registration.
  • Degree/Diploma qualifications relevant to the position.
