GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


This position is responsible for general building and grounds maintenance including all phases of custodian work at the Wyoming Life Resource Center (WLRC) in Lander while overseeing Building and Grounds Assistants.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.


  • Serve as Lead Worker for Building and Grounds Assistants and train new employees.
  • Provide ongoing training and monitoring of current employees.
  • Assist with scheduling interviews and hiring new employees.
  • Provide coaching team building and input into performance appraisals.
  • Assure that employees are completing their duties according to facility and federal licensure standards.
  • Clean and disinfect resident rooms living areas and other buildings on campus. Properly dispose of contaminated medical supplies and disinfect resident isolation rooms.
  • Strip and wax floors use commercial vacuums floor buffers and carpet cleaners.
  • Complete maintenance requests as assigned. This includes general building and grounds maintenance duties light plumbing electrical work and painting.
  • Ensure building entrances sidewalks parking lots and street entrances are clean and clear of debris by utilizing snow blowers brooms and other equipment when necessary. Monitor slick and hazardous areas on campus during inclement weather.
  • Assist with landscape maintenance including light grooming of shrubs bush removal and low-hanging limbs. Provide recommendations for tree and bush trimming.
  • Maintain flower beds plantings and landscape areas.
  • Perform routine duties such as moving furniture replacing light bulbs collecting or disposing of trash hanging pictures and assembling furniture.
  • Perform minor repairs to buildings and equipment. Pressure wash building exteriors. Wash windows and clean rain gutters.
  • Clean and maintain all janitorial and landscaping equipment and maintenance tools.
  • Report on unsafe conditions and other concerns to the supervisor. Complete record keeping and work orders for any required repairs.
  • Maintain working knowledge of fire safety evacuation plans procedures and fire extinguisher locations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


KNOWLEDGE:


  • Knowledge of methods and practices of landscaping cleaning methods and practices painting and minor maintenance practices.
  • Skills in employee motivation and team building.
  • Ability to train and monitor the work of team members.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and serve as a liaison between employees and department supervisors.
  • Ability to safely use equipment such as carpet extractors stand-behind floor scrubbers waxers burnishers and landscaping and maintenance tools such as snow blowers hedge trimmers weed eaters and leaf blowers.
  • Ability to determine the appropriate chemical solutions for cleaning and disinfection which require basic math ability.
  • Knowledge of Universal Precautions infection control procedures standards and proper disposal of biohazard materials.
  • Knowledge of state department and facility policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work around sensitive equipment such as computers and medical equipment.
  • Ability to follow directions work as a team and work safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to work positively with a variety of people in different atmospheres.
  • Knowledge of and ability to correctly use personal protective equipment such as masks gloves hard hats safety glasses and proper clothing and footwear.
  • Ability to work with and communicate with residents and staff in a positive manner.
  • Ability to work with and around WLRC residents including those who may display challenging behaviors.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Education:
High School Diploma

Experience:
0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Building and Grounds) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Custodian

OR

Education & ExperienceSubstitution:
1-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Building and Grounds) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Custodian

Certificates Licenses Registrations:
None.

Necessary Special Requirements


PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:


  • Exposure to hazardous materials bodily fluids chemicals bio-hazards potential explosives and the elements.
  • Must be able to drive vehicles and operate large complex cleaning and grounds maintenance equipment
  • Ability to safely lift and move heavy and large items (requires twisting bending lifting kneeling pushing and pulling).
  • Ability to climb ladders and work in a variety of locations and on a variety of surfaces.

  • FLSA: Non-Exempt
  • The Wyoming Life Resource Center participates in E-Verify. We will provide the Social Security Administration and if necessary the Department of Homeland Security with information from each new employees Form I-9 to confirm work authorization. Please note that we do not use this information to pre-screen job applicants.
  • A background check including the taking of fingerprints will be completed through the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation the Department of Family Services and the FBI for every successful applicant.
  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing will be conducted on safety-sensitive positions. Drug testing will be conducted on any position if reasonable suspicion exists.
