As an integral member of Allied Health the  Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) provides swallowing and communication intervention to patients in the Toronto Rehab University Centre Neuro Outpatient Brain Program (Multiple Sclerosis Acquired Brain Injury Stroke).  The successful candidate will: provide evidence-based assessment management and counselling of patients with voice fluency language cognitive-communicative swallowing and motor speech disorders. They will also provide treatment and education services to patients with a focus on maximizing patients functional abilities. Rehabilitation potential of patients based on environmental considerations assessments by other health care professionals as well as a speech and language assessment will result in innovative models of clinical intervention realistic goals and objectives for effective patient management and referrals to community agencies where appropriate. The SLP will facilitate communication exchanges between patients and other professions; provide family members caregivers and staff education in management techniques/approaches; initiate and participate in inter-professional and service specific patient-focused initiatives; participate in program planning and quality improvement initiatives. The SLP may also provide clinical supervision to SLP graduate students interns volunteers and CASLPO initial practice registrants.


Qualifications :

  • Masters Degree in Speech-Language Pathology or equivalent required
  • Registration with College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathology of Ontario (CASLPO) required
  • Ontario Association of Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists (OSLA) preferred
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (C Level) Heart Saver Plus Canada (on employment)
  • Minimum of two years of relevant clinical experience with adult neurogenic communication disorders required
  • Minimum of two years clinical experience preferred in neurorehabilitation working with patients living with Multiple Sclerosis Acquired Brain Injury Stroke
  • Experience in dysphagia and videofluoroscopy assessment required
  • Experience in the assessment and treatment of adult neurogenic communication disorders
  • Knowledge of outpatient continuum of care and community resources preferred
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the population of people living with Multiple Sclerosis
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal time management and organizational skills
  • Computer proficiency preferred
