Job Duties:

We are seeking one technician and one crew leader to work as part of a team on a canvasback study from January April 2026. This is a collaborative project between the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and several government partners.

Primary duties include: (1) capture and mark diving ducks and (2) collect and organize feather samples for isotopic analysis.

Most of the work will take place on or around Pools 13 and 19 on the Mississippi River with potential to also work in the Pacific and Atlantic Flyways waterfowl wing-bees and the UW-Stevens Point campus for brief periods of time.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • May assist with literature reviews and/or report writing
  • Collects data and monitors test results according to established research requirements and specifications
  • Inspects and maintains equipment supplies inventory and facility spaces
  • Reviews data to summarize results for presentations or reporting
  • Performs lab and/or field test materials and samples according to established research requirements and specifications. Performs lab or field tests

Department:

The Wildlife Ecology Discipline is in the College of Natural Resources at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point ( and is one of the largest undergraduate wildlife programs in North America with more than 400 undergraduate students. The College of Natural Resources has approximately 1550 undergraduates 50 graduate students and over 130 faculty and staff. The College supports premier undergraduate natural resource programs with disciplines in Environment and Society Fisheries and Water Resources Forestry Soil and Waste Resources Wildlife Ecology and the Department of Paper Science and Chemical Engineering.

Compensation:

Technician position: $15.00/hour

Crew lead position: $17.00/hour

Required and Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in wildlife ecology biology or related field and an interest in waterfowl ecology. Must have good communication skills and reliable data entry and note-taking skills. Ability to perform assigned responsibilities with minimal supervision. Experience capturing and banding waterfowl a plus.
