Job Summary

Position Summary

Primary responsible for the on-going maintenance service repair and replacement of irrigation systems at all Campus sites. Secondary responsibilities include Plumbing/Electrical maintenance. Base of operation will be the Decatur Campus.

Salary: Appropriate placement on ACCS Salary Schedule E2 Grade 03: $45220 - $62710

(Salary within this range is determined by your documented years of full-time related work experience)

Work Hours:Monday through Thursday 6:00a.m. - 3:30 p.m.; Friday 6:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Install repair and maintain manual and automatic irrigation systems including pipes valves sprinkler heads and controllers.
  2. Operate inspect and troubleshoot all components of automated and smart irrigation systems to ensure proper functionality.
  3. Ensure efficient water distribution control over- or under- irrigation and compliance with local regulations.
  4. Conduct regular inspections perform preventative maintenance and diagnose system malfunctions to prevent costly repairs.
  5. Design irrigation solutions tailored to specific project requirements considering soil type weather and plant life.
  6. Communicate with all Facilities management to explain system operations and provide guidance on best practices.
  7. Working with Landscape Vendor to insure all weeks are out of beds walks and brick pavers.
  8. Clean out all building gutters at least annually and make/coordinate repairs as necessary to insure water is moving away from the buildings.
  9. Maintain/replace landscape irrigation equipment as needed.
  10. Install/repair plumbing fixtures including sanitary sewer pipe lift station storm water and compressed air lines.
  11. Install plumbing and electrical fixtures including changing ballasts and bulbs.
  12. Keep plumbing fixtures in top working condition including unclogging drains changing out flush valves repairing/replacing water fountains.
  13. Install maintain and repair plumbing fixtures.
  14. Troubleshoot and resolve sanitary sewer issues. Solicit outside vendor quotes if the issue is more complex than Calhoun Facilities can address in a timely fashion.
  15. Preventative and predictive maintenance on all electrical and plumbing systems to insure continuous operation with little or no outages during peak operating times.
  16. Repair and replace electrical controls.
  17. On-call on evenings and weekends on a shared basis with other Electrical Plumbing Multi-Craft Technicians as well as other Facilities Team Members.
  18. Perform all duties with professionalism.
  19. Performs related work as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of ten (10) years experience in either/ or a combination of plumbing/electrical/general construction/HVAC/electronic control systems is required. Preference will be given to candidates with five (5) years experience working with commercial irrigation systems including design programming maintenance and repair of existing as well as new systems.

Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate through their experiences and accomplishments:

  1. Knowledge of hydraulic principles water pressure and flow rates.
  2. Proficiency with irrigation control system Calsense Maxicom II Rainbird
  3. Familiarity with electronic and mechanical components.
  4. Proficiency in operating heavy equipment such as trenchers and backhoes.
  5. Troubleshooting and diagnosing system malfunctions
  6. Leak detection and repair of pipes and components.
  7. Understanding of water management plant biology and soil science.
  8. Knowledge of sustainable practices and environmental regulations.
  9. Ability to communicate with co-workers vendors and wholesalers about job-related problems.
  10. Ability to maintain logs fills out work reports and order parts.
  11. Ability to read schematics wiring diagrams blueprints work orders and plan interpretation.
  12. Ability to work non-standard hours.
  13. Possess a valid drivers license and be insurable.
  14. Proficient in current National Electrical codes.
  15. Ability to read MEP Structural and Architectural drawing/plans.
  16. Ability to operate equipment such as trencher backhoe tractor forklift and bucket truck.
  17. Ability to work in heights exceeding 16 using ladders scaffolding and man lifts.
  18. Ability to work non-standard hours and respond to after hours on call emergencies.
  19. Ability to operate in a professional manner at all times.
  20. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students other employees and the public.
