Job Summary

Subject to formal establishment a vacancy will arise for a Wing Commander (Any Profession) to serve as SO1C Lessons J7 at PJHQ J7 Northwood HQ on FTRS (Limited Commitment Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS) with an initial proposed start date of 01 June 2026 (or earlier/later subject to formal establishment and candidate status).

Unit Function:

Command and control of assigned forces deployed on Joint Operations.

Position Role:

SO1 Lessons has a crucial role in enabling PJHQ to identify collate and where appropriate exploit lessons from operations exercises and training to support the development of PJHQ. Responsible for the lessons process SO1 Lessons will provide direction and guidance to joint operational commands to ensure that lessons are appropriately recorded and exploited.

Responsibilities:

Manage the PJHQ lessons team. Manage and develop the lessons process for PJHQ including digitisation and exploitation.
From lessons activity inform the requirements for both individual and collective command and staff trg in PJHQ Gp and the delivery of iPDT by the sS.
Secretary for PJHQ Lessons Steering Group.
Support the Defence lessons WG.
Act as the PJHQ POC for other lessons orgs (eg LWC NATO JALLC).
Design and execute MXSs as required by COS (Ops).
Undertake learning and development activities as agreed with the line manager;
Exploit opportunities to keep up to date with area of expertise/profession (for example background reading meetings with Subject Matter Experts attendance at seminars etc).
