Working both independently and collaboratively you will develop stories that resonate with the local community. You will produce engaging content for our digital platforms; the local radio morning show Le réveil IPE; and Radio-Canada Television.

Working in Prince Edward Island offers a unique opportunity to cover the daily lives of francophone residents and people across the province. You will report on everything from provincial politics to local events with a direct impact on French-speaking communities. It means not only connecting with francophone Islanders and Maritimers but also being their voice to French-speaking audiences in the rest of the country.

Come serve as the eyes and ears of the Radio-Canada team in Charlottetown.

The role

As a Videojournalist you will shoot video write scripts and produce reports for digital platforms newscasts and information programs in line with corporate standards and policies.

Key Tasks:

  • Keep up with news through a variety of sources.

  • Develop and maintain contact with community leaders and listeners.

  • Pitch and be assigned topics for news items reports interviews and special features.

  • Research gather evaluate and vet all material on the story being covered.

  • Develop stories across multiple platforms tailoring content to fit the specific style and format of those platforms.

  • Be comfortable operating cameras and our smartphone reporting tools.

  • Conduct interviews assess their relevance and select the appropriate quotes and clips for the story.

  • Scout locations. Ensure the highest-quality audio and visuals.

  • Select and shoot footage and prepare visual material for your content.

  • Act as a key resource for visual storytelling within the P.E.I. team.

  • Review footage and prepare shot and sequence lists.

  • Pitch story angles.

  • Script and narrate your reports.

  • Write various copy stories in the style appropriate for the platform.

  • Perform editing for your content.

  • Convey information through various means (news copy clips packs reports interviews vertical video etc.).

  • Deliver live reports and packaged segments on air.

  • Inform newsroom management of any event that warrants a news flash or special coverage.

  • Ensure the availability of the resources required to produce your stories.

  • Drive a news vehicle.

  • Ensure your equipment is in proper working order making minor emergency repairs as needed.

  • Create a stock shot library and media archive.

  • Carry out all other related tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent.

  • Three years journalism experience or equivalent.

Skills:

  • Extensive general knowledge.

  • Good knowledge of current events.

  • Knowledge of CBC/Radio-Canadas Journalistic Standards and Practices.

  • Solid command of French.

  • Deep understanding of issues affecting Prince Edward Island and the Atlantic provinces.

  • Strong understanding of regional national and international current events.

  • Ability to work in high-pressure environments with considerable deadline constraints and a significant degree of public scrutiny.

  • Willingness to learn and tackle new tasks across all Radio-Canada platforms.

  • Strong understanding of streaming on web and social media platforms.

  • Ability to generate pitch and pursue strong original stories.

  • Demonstrated professional experience using various news platforms including digital social radio and television.

  • Ability to disseminate complex information to a general audience and across all platforms.

  • Interest in shooting and editing video content.

  • Ability to present stories live on air from within the studio and out in the field.

  • Strong interviewing writing and storytelling skills.

  • Knowledge of video and editing techniques.

  • Valid drivers license.

  • Ability and willingness to work a variety of shifts including early starts late finishes and weekends.
