Purpose:
The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is the field-based advocate of Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine and is accountable for the execution of the field medical plan. They are the scientific point of contact for key opinion leaders (KOLs) in a given territory and help address medical scientific and research needs.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Develop/maintain scientific expertise to translate data into an applicable knowledge and communication platform.
Present and disseminate clinical and scientific data in a balanced manner to key opinion leaders and other healthcare professional (HCPs) individually or in group settings.
Build trusted relationships with KOLs and HCPs based on scientific credibility and clear engagement plans.
Attend relevant scientific meetings/conferences and develop summaries of key data and insights.
Gather and communicate insights from key individuals (KIs) to support and progress TA strategy.
Lead/participate in medical and scientific forums (e.g. ad boards and medical education events) where KIs are involved.
Support investigator-initiated studies (IIS) local and global clinical development programs and medical projects within the therapeutic area.
Collaborate with and provide expert clinical support to business partners (i.e. Market Access Medical Education Sales and Marketing etc. as appropriate).
Provide regional medical perspective to influence the Medical Affairs strategic plan.
Support the Medical publication plan.
Qualifications:
Education:
A minimum of a University degree in science or health-related field at a minimum with significant therapeutic-area experience is required.
MD and/or PhD PharmD preferred.
Required:
Previous experience establishing and engaging medical expert/opinion leader networks.
Experience in the presentation of scientific/clinical research publications; ability to put data into perspective and communicate it concisely.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. (Outlook PowerPoint Excel Word etc.)
Ability to travel up to 70% of the time to cover the assigned territory within Canada.
Valid drivers license and passport.
Preferred:
Minimum of 3 years business experience in the pharmaceutical industry which can be balanced against a strong clinical and/or scientific background in a relevant therapy area - proven track record of contribution to commercial medical and/or clinical development strategies.
Fluency in English (written verbal) is required. Bilingual English and French is an asset.
Relevant experience in the pharmaceutical biotechnology and/or healthcare environment is highly preferred.
Previous experience as a Medical Science Liaison is preferred.
Preferred background in related therapeutic area: Hematology Oncology
Ability to acquire expertise in other therapeutic areas and products depending on pipeline and/or changing business priorities.
Proven ability to learn quickly assimilate and distill large amounts of information.
Scientific curiosity and interest in developing and maintaining expert knowledge and keeping abreast of emerging data and scientific trends within the therapeutic area.
Demonstrated critical thinking project management skills and ability to impact decision-making with relevant stakeholders.
Experience in managing clinical/scientific programs with a high degree of autonomy including successfully managing projects from study concept to publication.
Business acumen including prioritization skills and big picture orientation.
Demonstrated ability to take initiative prioritize tasks and follow through in a field-based role.
Strong knowledge of GCP IMC code and Healthcare Compliance policies and procedures; familiarity with working in an environment guided by SOPs.
