Are you passionate about empowering rangatahi Māori into health careers Do you bring strong leadership cultural competence and a heart for whakawhanaungatanga Join us in shaping the future of Māori health. We are seeking a dynamic and culturally grounded individual to lead engagement efforts within the Whakapiki Ake kaupapa a Māori health workforce development initiative that supports rangatahi Māori to pursue tertiary pathways into health.
As Kaiurungi Matua you will:
- Provide leadership and mentoring within the Whakapiki Ake team.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with rangatahi whānau kura iwi and health sector partners.
- Lead strategic engagement with secondary schools and communities across Aotearoa.
- Deliver culturally responsive events and resources that support Māori student success.
- Champion kaupapa Māori principles and uphold Te Tiriti o Waitangi in all aspects of your mahi.
This is a fulltime (37.5h per week) permanent position.
The salary range for this role is $83300 - $91000 depending on skills and experience.

Youll be a culturally grounded and relationship-focused professional who is passionate about supporting rangatahi Māori on their journey into health careers. This role calls for someone who can confidently engage with whānau kura iwi and communities while championing kaupapa Māori principles and Te Tiriti o Waitangi in all aspects of your mahi. Youll thrive in building connections leading initiatives and creating opportunities that remove barriers and empower Māori student success.
Our ideal candidate will bring:
- Proven experience working with Māori communities rangatahi and whānau.
- Strong understanding of Te Ao Māori including te reo me ōna tikanga.
- Confidence in Kura Kaupapa Whare Kura and marae settings.
- Excellent communication and public speaking skills.
- Strategic thinking and planning capability.
- Event coordination and relationship management experience.
- A full clean NZ drivers licence and willingness to travel regionally.
