Job Summary

POSITION TITLE: Football Varsity Head Coach

QUALIFICATIONS: Appropriate certification through the Arkansas Department of

Education and Arkansas Activities Association/NFHS Coaches

Education Program; Successful experience as a varsity head coach

or coordinator is desired

REPORTS TO: Building Level Principal and Athletic Director

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:240 days; salary and benefits according to Siloam SpringsSchoolBoard policies.

ESSENTIAL TEACHING FUNCTIONS

  1. Participate in curriculum review and design.
  2. Implementa variety of effective instructional strategies consistent with lesson objectives.
  3. Diagnose and evaluate student abilities and progress in a timely and consistent manner.
  4. Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
  5. Create a program that meets the individual needs interests and abilities of the students.
  6. Create a environment that is conducive to learning.
  7. Effectively implement district initiatives.
  8. Effectively collaborate with department and grade level teachers.

ESSENTIAL COACHING FUNCTIONS:

  1. Coordinate and evaluate all aspects of assigned program for grades 7-12.
  2. Create model and sustain a daily culture of winning focused on effort attitude preparation sportsmanship and academic excellence.
  3. Collaborate with Athletic Director to supervise and evaluate all assistant coaches in assigned program.
  4. Provide mentoring to assistant coaches for professional growth.
  5. Assist administration in recruiting and interviewing assistant coaches.
  6. Develop respect by modeling positive behaviors through appearance manners language and conduct.
  7. Coordinate the instruction of all players in the program regarding the rules safe use of equipment and proper techniques to be used in the sport.
  8. Monitor the academic performance of team members.
  9. Maintain open and honest communication with students parents coaches and administration.
  10. Support and collaborate with staff in other athletic and academic programs to encourage students to participate in a variety of activities.
  11. Coordinate with and promote community youth sports programs.
  12. Supervise and take responsibility for the behavior of all athletes in the program.
  13. Help plan and supervise any special needs/events (awards night parent meeting community service etc.).
  14. Plan with administration for improvements in the program.
  15. Teach and model good sportsmanship toward opponents officials parents.
  16. Follow rules and regulations in the Siloam Springs Athletic Department Coaches and AAA Handbooks.
  17. Organize practices and workouts to maximize talents of coaching staff and optimize student participation.
  18. Attend pre-season organizational meetings as assigned by the athletic director.
  19. Assist in organizing and running of invitational or AAA tournaments and regular season games/meets.
  20. Attend professional development activities and remain current to new coaching strategies.
  21. Follow established procedures for the proper care maintenance and requisitioning of equipment supplies and uniforms.
  22. Cooperate with athletic trainers to ensure safety for all athletes.
  23. Attend all interscholastic contests for assigned team (if an emergency or situation arises that would necessitate the absence of a coach the athletic director must be notified as soon as the situation is known).
  24. Become an integral part of and develop rapport with the Siloam Springs community including students parents staff and supporters.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Abide by state statutes school board policies and regulations.
  2. Attend meetings and performs duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
  3. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
  4. Maintain accurate complete and correct records as required by law district policy and administrative regulation.
  5. Serve on committees as assigned.
  6. Remain current on instructional practices in education and coaching.
  7. Other duties as assigned.
