Research Assistant to serve as Chapter Scientist for the IPPC AR7 Report Hiring in processFinished, not possible to apply

The candidate will have the opportunity to work within the Department of Law and engage with leading legal scholars in a friendly and informal academic environment. They will be able to build a strong professional network in the field of law participate in research projects related to climate and energy law and collaborate closely with United Nations environmental initiatives in particular with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The position is fixed term with 18 hours per week for a period of 10 months. The start date is 1 February 2026 or as soon as possible.

Your work tasks

1. The research assistant working as Chapter Scientist (SC) for the IPPC will work for the Report AR7 and must provide technical support to chapter 4 on Sustainable Development and Mitigation. The support will consist of: organization of chapter meetings (online and not); reference management; figure drafting and data collection; checking traceability chapter overlaps or inconsistencies; and chapter layout and styles etc. (see below) insertion of references and research support.
2. CSs can attend Lead Author Meetings.
3. The WGIII TSU (Technical Support Unit of the IPCC) will train and support CSs through webinars sessions held within Lead Authors Meetings (LAMs) and as necessary by direct contact.
4. CSs must observe all the principles and procedures of the IPCC including code of conduct ( and policies on confidentiality communication and conflict of interest.
   
   

Your competencies

The ideal candidate is expected to demonstrate strong research skills the ability to synthesize complex scientific and legal information an understanding of climate and environmental law and corporate law and governance with a masters in law and familiarity to combine law with other disciplines. He/she should be capable of supporting authors in preparing IPCC chapter materials coordinating inputs and ensuring accuracy and clarity in documentation. The candidate must be comfortable working in a multidisciplinary and multicultural legal and scientific setting while engaging with international experts and UN bodies. Strong communication skills professionalism in intercultural environments and an aptitude for collaborative work are essential.

Appointment as a research assistant requires academic qualifications at masters degree level.
