Job Description:
The Health & Wellness Education Coordinator reports to the Manager Student Counselling and Wellness Supports. The incumbent develops and delivers evidence-informed programs and resources that promote mental health reduce harm related to substance use inform students about gender-based violence and increase awareness of wellness resources available to Algonquin College students. The Health & Wellness Education Coordinator leads outreach education and engagement initiatives while collaborating with campus and community partners. Additionally the incumbent support the hiring training and ongoing success of a group of student health & wellness promotors and placement students. The Health & Wellness Education Coordinator liaises with internal and external partners (e.g. residence college staff community partners etc.) to participate in on-campus health & wellness activities.
Each Health & Wellness Education Coordinator will have an area of focus that they are responsible in leading. However it is expected that these roles work collaboratively to support programming across all areas of focus. The areas of focus for this position include mental health and harm reduction in substance use (e.g. stress management self-care Umbrella Project) and culturally inclusive sexual health (e.g. healthy relationships diverse populations such as LGBTQ & Indigenous students Project Lighthouse etc.).
Plan implement and evaluate mental health substance use harm reduction and sexual violence prevention initiatives.
Design and deliver workshops campaigns and events to support student well-being.
Use frameworks such as the Okanagan Charter and student survey data (e.g. the Canadian Campus Wellbeing Survey) to inform programming.
Update and maintain health and wellness and promotional materials.
Work with the AC Hub Marketing team to produce promotional materials for events and campaigns.
Assess the appropriateness and relevance of external speakers and agencies.
Collaborates with a team of student Health & Wellness Promoters including supporting recruitment training and guidance.
Collect and report data for program evaluation and dashboard metrics.
Represent the department at college-wide events and participate in relevant committees.
Other duties as assigned.
Strong knowledge of mental health substance use harm reduction and health promotion.
Ability to apply research and evidence-based practices to program design.
Excellent communication skills including comfort presenting to large groups.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a diverse environment.
Project management and facilitation skills including organizing meetings and managing multiple priorities.
Ability to work independently and take initiative.
Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook Excel PowerPoint Teams).
Experience with event planning and community engagement is an asset.
Minimum of a three (3) year diploma/degree or equivalent in health care or related field;
Minimum of five (5) years related experience;
Strong knowledge of mental health substance use harm reduction and health promotion;
Ability to apply research and evidence-based practices to program design;
Knowledge of student wellness and diverse health needs;
Post-secondary experience is an asset;
Excellent communication skills including comfort presenting to large groups;
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a diverse environment;
Project management and facilitation skills including organizing meetings and managing multiple priorities;
Ability to work independently and take initiative;
Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook Excel PowerPoint Teams);
Experience with event planning and community engagement is an asset.
