Essential Functions
Knowledge of the materials methods procedures tools and equipment appropriate to the operation area to which assigned. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary in the area of work assignment. Evaluate the condition of ground cover plants shrubs and trees to determine the need for applying pesticide/herbicide and fertilizer. Prepares annual schedule for preventive applications of pesticide/herbicide and fertilizer. Inventories and maintains supplies relating to licensed application of pesticide/herbicide and fertilizer. Prepares and maintains application logs in compliance with Federal/State guidelines. Applies and directly supervises the application of pesticide/herbicide and fertilizer used on campus. Operate any/all equipment used in grounds maintenance. Ability to perform tasks requiring mechanical aptitude. Ability to perform a variety of semi-skilled and maintenance tasks. Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. frequently 100 lbs. occasionally and 100 lbs. with assistance to move heavy objects and to work under adverse weather conditions. Ability to perform moderately strenuous tasks. Good physical condition to permit long hours of outdoor physical labor. Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Drivers License. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with superiors and other employees. Follow verbal and written instruction. Snow removal Lift climb bend and kneel in order to complete assigned tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
Three years of experience in grounds keeping work or equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the required knowledge skills and abilities. Certified as a pesticide applicator with core and category 23 requirements.
