Job Description

The Microarray Bioinformatics team in the Life Science Group of Thermo Fisher Scientific seeks a skilled and motivated bioinformatics scientist to develop and maintain pipelines for processing curating and integrating public and proprietary biological datasets into analysis workflows.

How will you make an impact

The successful applicant will work closely with Thermo Fisher Scientific scientists in the analysis and interpretation of genomic data including DNA microarrays sequencing data and other molecular data types for applications such as calling gene copy number genotyping SNPs methylation gene expression and more. The candidate will apply creative approaches to understanding genomic data and developing analytical pipelines in the development of products that improve human and animal health.

What will you do

  • Develop optimize and maintain data processing pipelines for integrating public data into workflows.
  • Build web-based applications to manage flow of data and visualize results.
  • Application of AI-inspired content for describing genomics data.
  • Apply new and existing data analysis techniques to copy number genotype methylation and expression data.
  • Work with large-scale complex data sets.
  • Interact with research and product development teams in experimental design and subsequent analysis of results.

How will you get here

Education

PhD or Masters with 3 years of experience in Bioinformatics computational biology computer science or a related field. Bachelors degree holders with highly relevant experience are eligible for consideration.

Required Experience

  • Programming skills in Python or Perl in a UNIX environment and experience with R or MATLAB and SQL.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and analysis frameworks (e.g. GATK) in the biological sciences.
  • Experience with bioinformatics databases and tools such as high-throughput genomic mapping and sequence alignments and familiarity with relational databases and SQL.
  • Good problem solving skills and initiative in finding solutions.
  • Familiarity with a variety of public domain databases such as dbSNP ClinVar OMIM etc.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in analysis and visualization of microarray and sequencing data.
  • Experience with other genomic technologies.
  • Experience using web-based frameworks to visualize data will be considered a plus as will experience with processing data using a parallel framework.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Must possess outstanding communication ability and strong initiative and the ability to take ownership of exciting problems.
  • Must enjoy working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
