As a Regional Consultant the Sanitarian IV will provide technicalassistance and direction across multiple environmental health programspecialties. The incumbent in this position will oversee delegated Statefunctions performed by County Health Departments to ensure statewide uniformityin the implementation of applicable State laws and regulations. The SanitarianIV will review and/or approve project designs subdivision platsadministrative appeals variances and exceptions to regulations and will initiateenforcement actions when necessary. The incumbent in this position will alsoassist in the preparation of State Discharge Permits for large (>5000 gpd) on-site sewagedisposal system discharges to groundwater. Additionally the Sanitarian IV willprovide technical expertise in soils and hydrogeology as they relate toevaluating site suitability for on-site sewage disposal systems.
The candidate selected for this position may perform field work on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
This position involves the followingworking conditions:
Exposureto uncomfortable or unpleasant surroundings including outdoor environments.
Siteevaluations are conducted outdoors during varying times of the year withexposure to the elements.
Exposureto hazardous conditions that may result in injury.
Slipstrips and falls can be encountered in the outdoor environment and active worksites.
Physicaldemands such as lifting 50 pounds or more climbing ladders and carryingequipment.
Carryingmultiple pieces of gear afield over uneven ground and in and out of soilevaluation pits.
Requireduse of protective equipmentsuch as goggles gloves and masksduring sitevisits.
The incumbent will be required to drive a State vehicle. If you hold anout-of-state drivers license you must provide a certified copy of yourdriving record from theissuing statesMotor VehicleAdministration at the time of hire. All individuals must maintain a driverslicense with no more than 5 points on their driving record to operate a Statevehicle.
Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Environmental Health Specialists under the licensing requirements for Environmental Health Specialists.
Experience: Six years of environmental health work experience in the promotion control and maintenance of environmental health two yearsmust have involved direction of an environmental control project and/or supervision of positions performing environmental health work.

1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Masters degree in public health or environmental health sciences from an accredited college or university for one year of the required general experience.
