Purpose of Position

Instructors work one-to-one withadult learners (age 18)delivering individualized and comprehensive learning support that isneuroaffirmingstrengths-based and evidence-based.

Principal Roles and Responsibilities

  • Deliver one-to-one instruction in our East Vancouver Learning Centre both in-person and live online
  • Create andmaintaina learning environment that isneuroaffirming strengths-based and enjoyable for all learners
  • Identifylearner strengths and challenges through informal and formal assessment
  • Draw from multiple resources and curricula develop and implement year-long learning plans and daily lesson plans for your assigned learners that are individualizedneuroaffirming strength-based evidence-based technology-enhanced and linked to measurable learning goals
  • Provide formal and informal written progress reports with or without the use of assistive technology

Requirements & Competencies

Successful candidates for the instructor role have the ability to perform the above-listed principal roles and responsibilities with minimal to moderate support.This typically requires the following experience and competencies.

  • Experience working withadultswith diagnosed or suspected learning differences
  • Experience in strengths-basedneuroaffirminglearning environments and/or a demonstrated eagerness and ability to quickly adapt to this type of environment
  • Experience using structured systematic and explicit instructional approaches
  • Experience teaching the following: literacy concepts using a structured literacy/Science of Reading approach math focused on building conceptual understanding and support for executive functioning sensory processing or social-emotional learning. Open positions may listadditionalspecific required instructional experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with or without the use of assistive technology
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset
  • Demonstrated commitment to our charitable mission
  • Self-motivated and self-directed
  • Ability to provide a criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening
  • Eligibility to work in Canada

Job type and hours of work: Part-Time Contract


Contract instructors work between 6 and 20 hours per week plus paid prep time of up to 20 minutes per session. Contractors selectsetweekly days and times they are available for onlinesessions andmustmaintainthe same availability from September to June without disruption. Contractorsare responsible forinvoicing monthly for their hours worked and are not eligible for extended benefits. Available hours are:

- Any/All weekdays11:30am to 7:30 pmPST

- Saturdays 9:00 am to 5:00pm PST

Reports to:

Instructors report to theSenior ManagerYouth and Adult Programs and work closely with their assigned Case Manager(s) during the academic term.
