Job Summary

Job Summary

Administrative support work operating radios telephones and related communications equipment to receive and transmit information messages and emergency calls and to dispatch personnel and equipment to work sites in accordance with established procedures. This entrance level class is a stand-alone class.

Essential Functions

1. Operates two-way radios telephones and computers to transmit and receive voice and written messages to dispatch maintenance personnel and equipment to work sites in accordance with prescribed patterns and needs.

2. Analyzes requests/complaints and determines response priority and maintenance craft(s) required.

3. Maintains records and reports such as daily work tickets and event data logs.

4. Responds to questions and minor complaints from the public and schools.

5. Performs other duties as assigned.

Probation: 6 months

Qualifications:

Open Requirements: Two (2) years of experience in dispatching personnel and/or equipment in a construction and/or building maintenance environment.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of radio dispatching
  • Knowledge of departmental/divisional policies and procedures associated with work assigned
  • Knowledge of Jacksonville geographic area and general location of all schools and administrative buildings
  • Knowledge of school and work center numbering system
  • Knowledge of construction trades and associated terminology
  • Strong skills in operating two-way radios and related communications equipment
  • Strong oral written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong skills in word processing and database software
  • Strong addition subtraction multiplication and division skills
  • Ability to analyze requests/complaints and determine response priority and maintenance craft(s) required
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks at the same time
  • Ability to exercise good judgment under stressful conditions
  • Ability to read comprehend and apply job-related materials such as procedures and policies
  • Ability to maintain records and reports
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
