Job Summary

Subject to formal establishment amendment a vacancy will arise for a Wing Commander (any Profession) to serve as SO1 Work Experience & Placements at HQ Air Command on Additional Duties Commitment (180) Terms and Conditions of Service with a proposed start date of 09 February 2026 (or later subject to candidate status).

SO1 Work Experience & Placements will investigate develop and deliver a range of RAF Work Experience opportunities for school-aged students and work placements for university students. These opportunities will include both online activities and RAF unit attendance. Work will include assessing the feasibility of such engagement activities and how it could then be delivered on a permanent basis. The initial feasibility study was conducted by an SO1 VERR officer and this position now looks to expand upon this work.

Role Responsibilities:

1. Develop RAF Work Experience and engagement opportunities for school-aged students and university students.

These should incorporate a mix of online and onsite (at RAF unit) activities.

Activities will require engagement with organisations external to Defence and may require travel.

2. Deliver an online work experience solution with Springpod.

3. Develop and implement a foundation year programme suitable for new RAF recruits.

4. Work alongside universities to create work-related assignments akin to the RAF Hackathon.

5. Coordinate with MSHQ and HQ AIR People Policy teams to influence TCOS changes that will facilitate new initiatives.

6. Engage with R&S to ensure solutions are both suitable and sustainable.
