Embedded within the Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT the Center for the Development of Therapeutics (CDoT)is a highly collaborative organization of professional drug discovery scientists. Our mission is to translate the deep biological insights emerging from the Broad community into new therapeutics. To accomplish this mission we partner with faculty from MIT Harvard and the Harvard teaching hospitals together with industry professionals in pharmaceutical biotechnology and venture capital firms and advance cutting-edge drug discovery projects. We also create new technologies and work to combine the unique capabilities of the Broad Institute to enable new therapeutic approaches that will broadly benefit the scientific community.

We are seeking an experienced and creative Associate Director of Biologics to lead our emerging biologics research and development function. This role will be responsible for building a team that will guide the discovery optimization and preclinical development of novel protein- and antibody-based therapeutics. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in biologics R&D a strong track record in therapeutic protein engineering and experience leading cross-functional teams to advance molecules toward clinical development. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced and creative leader to work at the interface of industry and academia to advance projects from concept to clinic.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead CDoTs portfolio of biologic discovery projects in close partnerships between Broad faculty and industry partners. Mentor early career scientists and pro-actively mentor project leaders in active discovery projects.
  • Work closely with Broad faculty and CDoT leadership to develop novel therapeutics and therapeutic strategies.
  • Create strategies and lead efforts to fund early discovery projects leveraging Broads industry philanthropic and government relationships.
  • Lead alliance and partnership discussions with VC biotech pharma companies for therapeutic assets developed by the Broad.
  • Oversee the design engineering and optimization of novel biologics including monoclonal antibodies multi-specifics fusion proteins and other protein-based therapeutics.
  • Direct preclinical development including in vitro and in vivo characterization pharmacokinetics pharmacodynamics and toxicology studies by establishing partnerships with external CROs and technology providers that accelerate programs.
  • Work across Broad Platforms to identify new opportunities in technology development that will accelerate drug discovery projects and advance the mission of the Institute.
  • Stay abreast of emerging biologics technologies novel therapeutic modalities and industry trends to guide strategic decision-making. Speak and present at conferences to ensure CDoT is recognized as a creative leader in novel biologics discovery.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Molecular Biology Biochemistry Immunology Protein Engineering or related field. The ideal candidate will have a significant publication record demonstrating deep expertise in protein engineering antibody discovery and development or biochemistry and biophysics.
  • 8 years of industry experience in biologics discovery is essential.
  • Demonstrated success as a Project Leader advancing biologic discovery projects.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams motivating and leading scientifically diverse teams; experience and comfort when leading without authority.
  • Experience managing CROs. The ideal candidate will also have experience managing academic collaborations as well.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in display technologies (yeast phage mRNA etc.) synthetic library design and the creation and use of immune libraries.
The expected base pay range for this position as listed above is based on a 40 hour per week schedule. Broad provides pay ranges representing its reasonable and good faith estimate of what the organization reasonably expects to pay for a position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will vary based on factors including but not limited to relevant skills experience education qualifications and other factors permissible by law.
