About the Role

The Intermediate Accountant is responsible for afull range of accounting duties including overseeing accounts payable andaccounts receivable managing banking transactions performing accountreconciliations and maintaining accurate financial records. This role alsosupports the preparation of internal and external financial reports andanalysis. The Intermediate Accountant reports directly to the AccountingManager.

What Youll Do

FinancialAccounting:

  • Oversees accountspayable accounts receivable and banking functions including EFTs.
  • Inputs monthlyjournal entries and bank entries/transfers.
  • Creates updatesand processes recurring journal voucher distributions.
  • Performsmonthly/quarterly balance sheet reconciliations and records necessaryadjustments.
  • Oversees GST/PSTremittances and related adjusting entries and reporting.
  • Reviews monthlystatements for accuracy and makes required adjustments.
  • Responds toinquiries on financial transactions and budgets making adjustments as needed.
  • Ensurescompliance with internal financial and accounting policies and procedures.
  • Ensures allstatutory requirements are met including Charitable Status CPP/EIremittances GST and PST.
  • Providesreporting and analytical support to the Accounting Manager.
  • Assists withyear-end audit preparation.

Payroll Support

  • Maintains astrong understanding of payroll functions to provide backup support whenrequired.
  • Supports thePayroll and HR Administrator with ongoing workflow improvements.
  • Assists with thecoordination and review of annual T4 issuance.

BudgetPreparation

  • Prepares annualbudget templates for distribution.
  • Assists inpreparing annual budgets and budgets for funding applications.
  • Uploads approvedbudgets into the accounting system.

External &Management Reporting

  • Maintainsaccurate financial records and provides timely financial reporting to supportprogram and project decision-making.
  • Assists withpreparing quarterly consolidated financial statements.
  • Prepares budgetsand reports for funders as requested by the Accounting Manager.
  • Supports thepreparation of financial information required to meet funder reportingobligations.
  • Other duties asrequired.

OrganizationalSupport

  • Supports themission vision and values of SCCSS including participating inorganization-wide initiatives as interested or requested.
  • Supports ongoingcompliance with accreditation standards new standards and CARF requirements.

What You Bring

  • Completion of a two-year diploma inaccounting.
  • Two to five years of accounting experiencein a busy office environment.
  • Knowledge of accounting standards in thenon-profit sector.
  • Knowledge of federal and provinciallegislation applicable to charities.
  • Understanding of provincial EmploymentStandards and Human Rights legislation.
  • Ability to adapt to changing softwareenvironments and applications.
  • Strong attention to detail with the abilityto work under pressure and meet tight reporting deadlines.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office;experience with web-based accounting systems and NetSuite ERP from a financeperspective is considered an asset.
  • Excellent communication and organizationalskills.

Additional Information

  • Criminal Record Check (CRC) clearance isrequired for working with vulnerable populations.
  • This is an in-office position
  • Lifting and moving of general officesupplies and other related supplies/equipment.
