As the Emissions Instrumentation Technician in the Engine R&D Lab you will work in a research and development focused engineering lab supporting development of our Waukesha and Jenbacher Natural Gas engine platforms (HP). Each day you will collaborate with engineers and technician colleagues to install and maintain test cell instrumentation (including emissions measurement equipment) configuring and calibrating data acquisition systems support and perform complex R&D and validation tests. The role also involves laboratory operations support such as creating process documentation inventory and parts management EHS and safety compliance. The lab uses advanced technology to test products across their full operating envelope simulating real customer conditions with a shared goal of developing class-leading cleaner and higher-performing engine products.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Set-up calibration operation and repair of emissions and instrumentation equipment (hardware and software) (e.g. AVL AMA 5-Gas and SESAM FTIR) emissions gas probes and heated sampling systems
  • Perform daily emissions bench verification checks and maintenance tasks
  • Document and maintain calibration and certification records
  • Maintain inventory of consumable instrumentation supplies and hardware
  • Identify evaluate and recommend new Emissions and instrumentation equipment
  • Perform frequent hand operations like soldering connector crimping and wiring tasks
  • Ability to work in a team setting with a positive and professional attitude
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area
  • Occasionally lift a maximum of 40 lbs

Qualifications/Requirements (Required):

  • Associate of Applied Science degree in electrical/electronic or mechatronics field (High school diploma GED plus an additional 4 years experience as a lab technician may be substituted for associate degree)
  • Self-starter continuous learner reliable and punctual
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills
  • Organizational skills required to effectively prioritize and execute multiple tasks and perform 1detail-oriented work
  • 4 years experience in a Test lab emissions instrumentation and Data acquisition focused role.
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing emissions measurement instrumentation and facility related equipment problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to install and calibrate basic instrumentation such as thermocouples and pressure transducers.

Desired Skills (not required):

  • Flexible in work assignments requiring minimal supervision.
  • Hands-on experience with reciprocating engines components and technology.
  • Experience with documentation requirements for EPA 40 CFR part 1065 compliance.
  • Experience supporting data acquisition equipment and instrumentation such as: Siemens LMS NI LabVIEW thermocouples load cells pressure transducers LVDTs strain gauges and accelerometers)/
  • Knowledge of programming PLC systems used in facility and building equipment control and monitoring.

This role is onsite 5 days a week M-F 40 hrs. per week paid hourly with some possibility for overtime.
