About the role

The Specialist Quality Assurance is responsible for driving the delivery and evolution of quality assurance practices across Deakin. This position plays a critical role in designing and executing quality strategies supporting delivery teams with hands-on testing activities and promoting a culture of quality ownership and continuous improvement.

The role includes planning and reporting test strategy creation automation end-to-end testing accessibility and performance testing and facilitation of user acceptance testing. It also focuses on implementing quality metrics and practices that drive defect prevention not just detection.

This position will initially focus on assuring the quality of data and analytics platforms supporting Deakins modernisation journey including the migration of data solutions from traditional data centres into cloud environments such as Azure Databricks. The role will work closely with data engineers architects and platform teams to ensure the accuracy performance security and reliability of data powering critical university services

As a Specialist you will:

  • Lead and guide QA activities across various delivery streams to ensure high-quality outcomes aligned with business needs.
  • Design and implement scalable inclusive and fit-for-purpose testing strategies and frameworks.
  • Champion quality ownership within delivery teams and support a shift-left approach.
  • Define and track quality metrics across time using data to support continuous improvement.
  • Provide hands-on expertise in automation performance integration and accessibility testing.
  • Collaborate with vendors stakeholders and technical leads to coordinate testing and deliver reliable user-focused solutions.
  • Facilitate estimation test planning defect triage and UAT coordination.
  • Contribute to the uplift of testing capabilities and support the professional development of QA team members.

Project Specific responsibilities include

  • Lead and guide QA activities across Databricks pipelines data lakehouse platforms and analytics workloads
  • Validate data accuracy completeness consistency timeliness and lineage across ingestion transformation (ETL/ELT) and consumption layers
  • Perform data reconciliation between legacy/on-premises systems and new cloud datasets investigating and explaining data variances
    Collaborate with Security and Architecture teams to ensure data governance access controls and privacy requirements are tested and upheld
  • Provide hands-on test planning defect management and reporting using enterprise tooling across data delivery streams
  • Contribute to the uplift of quality practices in data engineering teams through coaching documentation and knowledge sharing

To be successful youll have:

  • Postgraduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience; or
  • Extensive experience and management expertise; or
  • An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Solid knowledge of ICT best practice and current and emerging industry trends with respect to quality and testing methodologies.
  • Demonstrated experience in applying disciplined quality and testing practices to enable agility and delivery of high quality in Agile and/or Hybrid methodologies.
  • Experience with enterprise test tools.
